Well, a little earlier then expeced I will be having the new wheels go on tomorrow. I got a local tyre company supplying some 215/40 17 tyres for a reasonably good price fitted and balanced.

I will update this thread with pics once they are on.

Chicken - you could have at least tried the 225/45s seeing as you had them to hand!

Meh! I was going off this post...

215/45 R 17 tyres will not fit! Well, they will, but they'll rub.

I went from 205/40 R 17s to 215/40 R 17s on my new wheels after buckling problems on my Sport wheels and I got a set of genuine TT alloys from an Ebay seller (he's got another set up at the moment actually - and the Tank appears in his listing wearing the new boots!).

The wheels have been great and they were brand new. Very good value at what I paid for them.

Now that they've been on a while, I've had a look for rubbing and found only a tiny amount on the front nearside liner. On partial lock, when the rubber is nearest the liner, I can't fit a finger between the tyre and the liner, so I really would urge caution on the 215/45s.

I have noticed a better ride since changing and it's now up there as one of my 'glad I took the plunge' mods.

BTW - the offset on mine is ET 32 which means that with a 7.5J rim, you keep the same inner clearance.

Cheers,

Mike

I was assuming the 45 aspect wouldn't go, so saved my back messing about with them!

Well, they are on!

Currently running 215/40 ZR17 tyres which seem to be okay.

They are on standard SE suspension, the ride seems a little more bumpy, but I think its not bad on the whole. Is it necessary to uprate the springs to something more sporty?

Anyway, the look of the wheel is perfect and the wider track makes the car look meaner somewhat (if thats at all possible!)

The bodykit is in this week for painting, should be getting fitted towards the end of next week, so I will keep the piccys coming!

Enjoy :)

What Rim width

Just purchase a set of replica chrome 17inch 9 spoke with 7.5 width rims tryed 205/40 and too much rim to kerb so i think 215 is the best option do you? are the TT alloys your using 7.5 and how do you find the clearance with 215's

Yes, the rims are 7.5 wide. They are from a TT.

Not seen any problems with the 215's (40 aspect), so all is well thus far. I have had it loaded up aswell and so far (touch wood!) no contact.

Mine was an SE spec car, I think there is a suspension difference between this and the Sport model for example.

As Skipton01 has said in the past, the offset on these wheels is 32, therefore maintaining the same inner clearance. Expect to spend around £600-£700 for a set like these. I thought they were worth the extra for genuine Audi wheels as replicas with tyres would still have set me back £550 for a good quality replica.
