No more cold air

Okay, I've had a look at what the colour DIS has to offer, and it is described here in this post by @timmus :

I must admit that I hadn't taken in the full range of functions on offer with the colour DIS, which is impressive. However, I don't think it helpful to describe the colour DIS as having VCDS, because that is specifically the name of Ross-Tech's software package, and that is certainly how the term VCDS is generally understood on this forum.

VCDS doesn't just poll the fault codes out of the ECU, it attaches short descriptive labels to them. Those labels are part of VCDS, they don't come from the ECU. Everything about VCDS is Rosstech intellectual property, including the name. Mr Rosstech is every bit as litigious as the American reputation hints at. Take care out there ...

To avoid any misunderstandings...

VCDS is the brand name given to RossTech's PC-based diagnostic software. Colour DIS has an integrated diagnostic scanner, but it is not RossTech's VCDS. For some people (the newbies to VAG vehicles, the less technically minded, those who are working in a non-native language, etc), the term 'VCDS' can easily become synonymous with 'diagnostic scanner'.

So, for the avoidance of all doubt, Colour DIS does not run VCDS, but its own diagnostic system is immensely feature-packed. Unlike VCDS, Colour DIS cannot make any coding/adaptation/setting changes, but its capabilities are otherwise equivalent to VCDS. It can read/clear fault codes (and also has its own descriptive labels of each fault), it can read every measuring block from every module, it can graph data, etc, etc. For the purposes of diagnosing an issue with the air conditioning, for instance, Colour DIS is every bit as capable as VCDS.

Cheers,

Tom

Tom, for the avoidance of all doubt, are you able to tell us who exactly is responsible for the Colour DIS diagnostic system?
Colour DIS runs on its own proprietary operating system. The diagnostics section is an integral part of the Colour DIS OS, which is developed and maintained by a consortium.

Cheers,

Tom
