Chat No wonder Audi A2 prices are dropping!!!

Sorry to draw up an old thread but seemed better than starting another 'price' post.

Things seem to be on the move with prices increasing now. May daily (ok bi-hourly) search on ebay has shown 31 A2's available with the average price around the £2500 mark. Not sure what's driving the increase again but it's got to be a good thing.
They may be advertised for that much but are they actually selling at those prices? I think prices will start to go up but it’s still a bit early.

I wouldn't be surprised if the rash of motoring magazine and newspaper articles in the past 12-18 months hasn't finally resulted in some folk out there cottoning on to the A2 and what it is - and then the effect of demand vs supply will starts to impact on price points. The coming roll-out of emissions restriction areas in various towns / cities will probably put a brake on this for a while though.
Hopefully the upcoming feature in the A2 that TPS are publishing and adding to their web site may help a tiny bit too.
I will add a copy of it when it has been published. I got them to put a link to A2OC in it (and no links to any other A2 sites, A2OC is the best)

But if people start seeing them as a cheap gateway to classic cars as a result of all the publicity and start putting demand on a dwindling supply, it may snowball a bit. Look at what happened with 2CVs 15 years ago. You could still just about buy a mildly tatty running car for £500 (I did, sight unseen from the other side of the world!). Now you can only usually find them through owners clubs or specialists usually having had some TLC and £4-5k starting price - even non-MOT restoration jobs are into 4 figures as people pick them up for a rebuild. A fully refurbed one then was 5-6k ; now a rebuilt good one by the same place is (sometimes considerably) north of 12k. Anything properly old or interesting, or very good condition with low mileage is beyond that.

I suspect that really good low mileage A2s will follow the same course, with others lagging somewhat further behind but stabilising and gradually being picked up / tidied up over time by folk here. Ones that are just bought and used to EOL will eventually be recycled. Insurers will also help when more start recognise them as being old enough to be classic, with guaranteed value policies and so on being easier to access.

@Birchall Look forward to seeing the article, Steve.
