noisy ac fan

hi I have a noisy ac fan is this common how do I fix it

Define noisy - mine is quite loud on full black but i normally keep it about 3-4bars of fan and it is near inaudible with it cranked higher it is noisy but mostly it is the air? is it a rattle or a squeak?

rattle it sounds like the blower. noisy flaps

Guessing, not sure where it is though as not had pleasure of going to look for AC components yet, from part number it seems like it should be a shared part with Polo and othwe wv/audi cars so probably worth to have a look around.

I'm sure someone had to replace the b****r and can advise better than me.

Its accessed by removing the glovebox and is mounted just above. There are access points for undoing the screws holding it in place, but changing it very much depends on how big your hands are. I've never been able to remove one without taking the dashboard out because of my sausage fingers, but many people have changed theirs in situ.

I am not aware of a repair, so replacement would be the option.

I may be missing something, but why not just leave your climate control switched to 'auto' with a target of 21 or 22 degrees?

i had to replace the blower on my tdi after it stopped working, it seized up. i took it out and oiled the bearings and it worked again, but was really noisey, the noisey rattle increased with fan speed, i got a replacement (i think mine was from a seat ibiza - they were a bit cheaper and newer). anyway i did it without taking the dash out and it wasn't too bad. the glovebox has to come out and a bendy screwdriver/socket extension makes all the difference, they are about £5 and transforms the job from a real pain to quite straightforward. there is a good guide on here for glovebox removal - follow that as the bolts are quite well hidden...good luck

I did set it to 22degrease and put it on auto works fine now. it's a old girl now 19years old and still looks current

It's worth getting a reputable engineer to regas the air con every couple of years. The cabin filter also need replacing from time to time.
