On and off since probably May I've noticed a low clacking noise increasing with wheel rotational speed, coming from left side of car particularly when accelerating from low speed, especially with some steering angle. My gut instinct from past experience is the CV joint on that side - I have a mapped 1.4 Tdi BHC on >133k, and to my mind that is already pretty good going for a CV joint with the torque going through it. Have started noticing it more at motorway speeds in the two long drives I've done recently - accelerating from 40-50mph limited sectors back to NSL etc in 4th and 5th have elicited the same noise.
Any recommendations of things to check (ie, are there any bolts I can check that could have come loose?), or if replacement makes sense, which manufacturers are considered good ones? I've seen enough posts about the difficulty of pushing the bonded driveshaft splines off doing bearing replacements to assume that this isn't the easiest job in town, but any advice appreciated. Will also check in case Sarge has a tutorial. Thank you, Robin.
