Noisy EGR valve

Morning all,

I’m sure this has been covered before but I just wondered how to tackle my egr valve. It’s so noisy its quite embarrassing especially at low speeds? It keeps making a deep thumping noise which eventually disappears at higher speeds. Its been like this for a while but I fear something may go horrible wrong with it causing more damage...

cheers

Pull the pipe of it and plug the pipe leaving the egr disconnected. From you profile it’s an AMF engine so will cause no mil lights etc will get your slightly better mpg and emit less soot

Thanks Paul, I’ll have a look later this morning. I suspect I may need more information to ensure I don’t pull out the wrong pipes. My car is due for an MOT next week so I may wait until I get the all clear before I physically remove any connections.

Less soot would be most welcomed :)

It’s the pipe to the 3” diameter saucer on the top of the egr valve. Remove and plug it before the mot as the particulate emissions measured on the mot will be reduced so even more of chance of passing

Hi Paul,

I've duly removed the 3" diameter pipe to the EGR however on doing so I've noticed there is a little oil in the pipe (hopefully the photo shows this). Should I be worried?

Thanks,

Ben

No not that pipe. It’s about ⅜” dia pipe and goes onto the 3” dia saucer on top of the egr valve

Don’t worry about a little oil in the large 2” dia pipe

I think Paul means a pipe going to the top of the EGR - on this image just below 12 o'clock there is a wee copper-coloured pipe that the tubing would attach to?

Here is a picture on the car. This pipe to disconnect is the small rubber pipe with the arrow. Once you disconnect it from the EGR you must plug the open end of the rubber pipe with a suitable bolt.
