One of the things that bugs me about buying a car from a dealer is the sheer amount of free advertising they insist on attaching to your car. [15] Witness my A2: 3 branded window stickers, tax disc holder, 2 x branded registration plate holders and 2 x branded registration plates - all on a car that Whetstone Audi knew was going to live 200 miles away from their showroom...
Where was I? Oh yes, I remember. </rant> Disposing of the stickers/tax disc was straightforward - the registration plates are proving more difficult. Thanks to new laws in the UK regarding the production of plates, outfits selling them now have to put (at least) their postcodes on them. Does anyone know of anywhere that will do this discretely? I was tempted by the ones in Halfords - until I saw one on the road that is...[8)]

The first thing I did after picking up my car was take ALL their stickers off... I still have the plates and the cover plate below that though...

I warned the garage this time not to bother. All I had upon delivery were the plates with their name across the bottom. I can just about live with that, as it may be useful when I come to part-ex perhaps...

My dealer, Martins, Basingstoke, even put their logo over the top of a heated rear screen element - specifically a no-no in the handbook!

The only sticker Peter Guilders (Derby) put on ours was the tax disc holder.

Why are NEARLY all the A2s in Lichfield are silver ? ? ?

I got the plates & Tax disc Holder Branded not to bad. Dealer plates are brillant when it comes to selling a car people seem to lap them up.
One reason i think is that it indicates the car hasn`t had a front or rear Bang as many crash specialists put there names uin the bottom of the plate!

Under the new law regulations, all number plates made must show the name of the place where they were made ie if from Halfords, it will say so at the bottom of them.

It's suppoesed to help prevent fraud.

On a slightly different note,, my rear number plate feel off last weekend,, it just peeled away from the boot under the hot sun.. Didn't realise until I got home.

Anyway,, I was in Wales at the time [130miles from home],, no details or anything with me other than insurance and driving licenece,, well rang Audi customer service up and I was able to pop into a local Audi dealer,, they checked my details on their computer and replaced the plate within 30 mins and without putting their logo on it or charging me

Just as an aside, I take it your number plate has just vanished along road somewhere. Be careful some twit doesn't pick it up and use it to their advantage by sticking it on their motor, or some how getting a matching plate (shouldn't be possible now with the new regs for numplate production, but you never know).

Would hate to think your getting London congestion charging fines through the door!.

Runboy - that happened to me a few months ago. My insurance company contacted me to tell me that I had been involved in an accident in Ross on Wye on 19th March!! Besides the fact I have never been to Ross On Wye and was at work all day on 18th March, they were still convinced that a Mr Jones driving a blue A2 with my registration was reported by witnesses to have been in an accident!

It did get sorted out in the end, but not before they took away my no claims bonus whilst they were investigating it.

So Mr Jones, if you're out there, I suggest that you ensure that our paths never cross [10] !

This reminds me... I was following one of those small van-like MPVs the other day with the registration KAN 900.

Miles and miles passed before I noticed it wasn't a Renault Kangoo... it was a Citroen Berlingo... Why??? [9]

In South Africa I had my front plate stolen in Cape Town! They slide out sideways and it did not fall off by itself. It is to this day in some students bedroom I imagine... OB 900000 (O for Orange Free State the province and B for Bloemfontein).

A few years ago we got a visit from the police - a Sierra, same colour and reg no as ours had been used as a getaway car for a robbery in London - we lived in Derby. No numberplate had gone missing so they had done their research. Or the wife was moonlighting!

Another reason why replacement numbers plates involve more paperwork these days. And if you loose a plate, try and find it (unless it's in Wales of course!).
