o/s shocker top bolts

It makes it even harder because of the webasto heater in the way, later A2 s dont have all that lot in the way but still awkward with brake fluid reservoir in the way.

Good job LK. ?

Wow thats crazy corrosion!!
Disappointed audi didnt bolt them upwards into captive nuts or a triangular bracket, would make life so much easier and seized bolts less likely

So its just how my dad sums up a lot of jobs " A long way in a long time"?

I had to remove the bracket and fluid pot to stand any chance!

Only realised afterwards the black dome should be fitted to top of shocker then pushed up into its recess hole and it then supports itself whilst bolts are started.

Cant believe how long shocks, inner cv boots, ball joint rubbers (what a faff but hopefully worthwhile) front brakes, took me!
How does the black dome thing come off? I have to replace the top mount on the NSF strut at some point as it is rattling quite badly, just wondering how much of a job it will be. Aside from releasing the top mount, can you get away without having to remove the hub?

The black dome is just a plastic cap that pulls off but aids refitting as if you refit it to the new strut and push the strut into position it holds it whilst you put the bolts in.
Sure its doable with hub in position but i prefer to remove the hub
Expect the pinchbolt to be in poor condition and check center of brake flexi for splitting

Ended up moving the brake fluid tank, got the last bolt started then realised it was turning below so cut away the rubber then initially tried it with just the vice grips on but completely solid, so i cut a bit off the nut with the angle grinder and hey presto got the last bolt out and shock removed.
i know that feeling when the nut is turning....i had exactly the same problem on 2 of the 3 A2's i've now done this job on, the worst one was the inside nut hidden behind the shock, proper PITA...but the car is sooo much better now, its worth the effort cheers
