Odd stability management behaviour

When driven into a right hand corner with a bit of speed, the stability management light flashes on the dash and you can hear/feel power cutting out to correct the slide. This is happening at fairly low speeds, certainly lower than when compared to a left hand corner.

I originally thought it was to do with low tyre pressure on the rear nearside wheel, this has now been changed due to a badly sealed tyre. Pressures are okay in the rest of the tyres. The remaining tyres don't look in great condition to be fair, but they look original fit tyres and at 4 years old the sidewall have faint cracks in them, so their going to be changed shortly.

Any ideas what the stability behaviour is due too?

If you have a new tyre on one side of the axel and a worn one on the other, the car will sense that one wheel is spinning faster than the other and so the ESP will kick in - it is doing it on mine at the moment and there are no fault codes.

If you can, put tyres with similar tread depths on the same axel.

Cheers,

Mike

Cheers guys, makes sense that the tyres would need to be of similar tread depth, didn't think it would be so sensitive.

Everyday is a school day though. Certainly put a new tyres on and then possibly look at the steering position sensor if i'm still having problems.

This sounds very familiar to me! It was caused by the ABS sensor link cables wearing against the tyre and shorting which activated the full 'what happened to all the power' mode that you are experiencing, strangely enough also on right hand bends, but I must admit never got it to kick in on left hand bends, note to self need to drive harder!
Have a look at the left front cable, if it's chaffed tape it up and that should sort the problem out for you.
Cheers, Mike
