Hi,

Whilst writhing around under the amf tdi I noticed the inner large end of the inner cv boot on the driver side has popped out from under its clip (crimp-ear? Type)

I have two qs!

1 how much grease goes into the boot?
2 can i use a jubilee clip to fasten back on?

Never done a cv boot!

Thanks

Evening Edd,

Whilst I’m sure ma y people might have got away with using a jubilee clip or even a thick cable tie for this task, when changing these clips I’ve always used this type of crimping tool with the correct clips:

I might even have the correct length clip here for you and quite happy to send you my crimp tool if you was to send it back quickly. That said it’s probably cheap to obtain one from Amazon that postage from me to you and back.

Kind regards,

Tom

My advice is do the job properly. Get a genuine Audi clip and the proper crimping tool.
However if you have mega miles and it is on its way out I would change that advice and secure it with two wraps and a twist of soft iron wire.

Inner boots secure far easier than outers as inners don't turn, it's definitely possible that a cable tie will do it.
However I have recently fitted universal SKF boots and whilst it's really too early to tell I have high hopes for longevity! These are secured with metal bands which need a tool bought separately but for me they are miles better than anything else I have tried. Grease quantity well a good splodge lol
