From Saturdays Telegraph p.15 :
.... motorists can choose where to have their car seviced without invalidating their warranties.
How much will I save by going to VW dealer for a service?

Just playing devils advocate here.....

Whilst I agree with the servicing cost issue, would we really want to take our £15k car to someone who doesn't understand them 100%? (I know some people say even Audi don't understand them, but that is another discussion!).

With cars becoming more and more computer chip-based, would even a VW garage hold the right diagnostic ability as a partner Audi garage?

Sorry to half-hijack the topic, but just some thoughts...

I didn't see the article but my understanding is that the "manufacturer's warranty is protected by this but not the additional two year dealer warranty. Check before you jump.

After Mr Audi quoted me £420 for the cambelt replacement I took it to my trusted mechanic and asked if he'd do it... he looked it up in his bible and he needed NINE special tools to do just that one job... some probably A2 specific... so no, you can't just let anyone service it as they will just "make" their own tool to do it and really mess things up I should think...

Sounds like F1 Autocentres in the UK. A friend of mine has a Mitsu Spacewagon. He had an oil leak on the thing-Mitsu dealer wanted £600, F1 wanted £400. He went with F1. They had never done the job on the Mitsu so called it a 'special project' Had to have tools made/bought in specially.

He eventually sold the car due to the massive 'mess up' they made of the job. Never again.
