You could even say Audi designed the cap that way. The user manual and quick reference even states this is where the cap is hung while fuelling the car.

I think this is a common feature on all VAG cars, certainly all the ones I’ve owned and that is quite a few

Tom You absolute ledgend my A5 as a filler cap with a peg on it that slots in to flap
always thought the A2 was missing something in the filling departments but tuen out it was my lack of knowledge
every days a schoold day

Every Audi I have come across from Audi 80's all the way to my new A1 all have had some way of fitting the filler to the flap area.

Aaa, so now I dont need to put my cap upside down om the rear Wing when refueling??

Nor if the rubber strap has broken leave it on the roof or on the pump.

If and when I buy another A2 I'll certainly be checking the fuel filler flap door for scratches ??

They are plastic. Even the very early A2s are not showing signs of wear on the fuel flap.
