Oil change requirements 1.4TDi (90PS)

Hi

I have a 1.4 TDi 90PS, and it is set up for variable servicing. It has done 16,800 miles, and when I press the service indicator button it says 8500 miles to go - this would make 1st change 25,300 approximately.

The sticker on the car - put their when new, I presume, seems to say that it should be serviced at 20,000 or when the AVS says - whichever is the sooner.

I have two questions, really:
1) Which is right with respect to Audi's policy? The sticker or the dash AVS indicator?

2) Should I really carry out an oil and filter change before then anyway - for peace of mind?

This may have been answered before, if so, I apologise.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

The oil should be changed when the service indicator says so, or after 24 months - whichever comes first.
Your dealer can re-programme the ECU to change from the variable (or long life) servicing to fixed service intervals which are 10,000 miles or 1 year - and use a slightly lower spec engine oil.

Personally I'm a great believer in more frequent oil changes and replace the oil and filter every year, using Castrol Longlife2 (now renamed ?) bought from Halfords. It may be a waste of cash but could be worth every penny if you plan to keep the car a long time. While the car was in warranty I did these 'between services' oil changes myself, without resetting the service indicator or advising the dealer.

Cheers Spike

I also have my A2 set up on longlife service, but I still change the oil and filter my self between services without resetting the service indicator or advising the dealer. I simply don't feel confident driving 30000 kms on the same oil, no matter what specs is on the bottle. I use Mobile 0W30 longlife oil.

Merry Christmas by the way, fellow A2 drivers!

Thanks both

I'll change the oil and filter - and wait till the AVS times out, or 2 years occurs. The oil looks very black now, so I'll get hold of a filter so that I can do a change.

Thanks for the clarification.

Appreciated.
