Hi

These might be a silly questions but hear we go...

TDi-90 oil filter, is there a special tool for removing the black cover nut thingie?
Does it undo clockwise or anti-clockwise?
It seems very tight! that why I am asking.

Whats the easiest way to move the flywheel so I can get to those bolts to remove the sump.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards

Darren

Not sure on the Flywheel, but the oil filter is as normal anti-clock wise, you could use a socket that fits (not sure of the size) i used one of the spider oil filter remover thingie's that you use with a rachet ;)

Hi Darren
For the oil filter cap use a 6 point 36mm socket like this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Laser-Oil-Fil...t=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item5ad31ff1b6
Don't use the more conventional 12 point (bi-hex) sockets as they only grip the very edges of the plastic cap so you risk damaging it if its tight.
I can't remember the detail but to turn the flywheel, there should be something on the the front (alternator) end of the crankshaft which you can get a socket on

Thanks Spike

I was going to go to Hellfords tomorrow and get the Laser Oil Filter Cup Wrench 76mm. They say it fits Audi/VW.

I have tried a very very large adjustable spanner on the nut part but it would not move.

Darren,

The laser looks like something that you remove a cased filter with, not a paper element. You need a socket to remove the A2 filter, turning anti-clockwise to remove the cap.

As RAB indicated, the 76mm Laser tool is for traditional 'spin-on' canister type filters and is NOT what you need.
Halfords sell conventional 1/2" drive 36mm impact sockets and either should be fine - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...eId=10001&catalogId=10151&langId=-1&x=14&y=11
If you want to double check the socket size, set your adjustable spanner so its a neat fit on the filter cap. Check the width across the jaws to give you the socket size. It should be 36mm

36mm, according to Elsawin.
