Oil minimum level light

I've got the yellow 'oil minimum level' genie lamp lit up. Despite the oil level being full.

I've trawled through the web site and find several people with the same issue, but nobody saying what the outcome was (Please if you post a problem and get it resolved, post about it!)

cheers

If it helps some forums have a 'Solve' option for each technical thread.

Once a technical problem has been solved then the OP or Admin can flag the thead as Solved. This can then be specified when searching.

Cheers for the replies. I took it to the garage and had an oil and filter change as well. Not due a service but have really put some miles on it during the last six months.

Light still on, chap said it was probably faulty sensor but told me to give it a good two weeks before going back, see if it goes out on its own.
Bit annoying I was about to try and sell it privately after being messed around by a garage with a part exchange - guess these things happen at the worst times :)

It doesn't hep when your dip stick is broken - wish I'd got one for £6!

If I want the new sensor fitted its £68 + labour.

I had a similar fault on my first A2 (2001 SE TDi), the oil light would come on spuriously and the only cure was found by replacing both the sensor AND cle clocks!!

This was done under warranty thankfully as clocks are £600-ish plus coding.

Fingers crossed it's the oil sensor.

Cheers,

Mike

Drove the car fifty miles today. Must I admit I did a little bit of speeding and gave it a lot of stick - oil light now off. Hurrah!

The car's performance is much better as well.

Arghhhhhh! I love and hate this damn machine
