Oil pressure light on for maybe 30 seconds…

I’ve rung the AA for them to check the pressure but I’ve read it can commonly be a bad sensor that needs replacing…

possibly could use oil top up but it’s prudent to have someone check the oil pressure?

this is the oil pressure light, right? The photo is from the interweb as the light on my car was just very briefly on so couldn’t photograph it.

The oil pressure sensor has just a single wire going to it, it can very often get dmaaged or pulled out of the connector full stop.

Seeing as its coming and going with yours, it could well be a lose wire or a sensor starting to fail.

Obvioulsy check the oil level as a first port of call.

Which model do you have?

Hi, I’ve got the 1.4 diesel

AA guy has just gone… it was 2 bottles of oil low!

glad I stopped driving and called them…

I’m going to check it regularly now and now wait for lights to go on…

forgot to ask the guy what oil he put in… I’m guessing there is a standard basic oil for uk London area? For temperature etc?

Don't you check basics like that routinely? Check your dipstick is intact. If not it may have been overfilled with oil. Take a picture of your dipstick and post it here.

As @audifan says, post a picture here ASAP of your dipstick. If it’s been overfilled because your dipstick is broken it could REALLY damage your engine.

Yours cars location within the UK has absolutey no impact on the grade of oil being used. It will be based on meetin the manufacturers speficiation which on yours is 5/30 VAG507.00

The dipstick end has broken off and as a result it's been overfilled - although not to the extreme. Mine has a replacement dipstick which doesn't have the little dot just next to where the break point is on yours. Comparing it with your photo, if you were to make sure you have oil just showing on the dipstick but no further up than the dot, then the level wouldn't be far wrong.

If it took two bottles then it was dangerously low - That answers the question when I checked Audrey's just now and found the level to be lower than the minimum as to why the light didn't go off, it only took maybe half a litre at most to bring it back to the correct maximum level, so it seems I was nowhere near as low as you were!

That said, if the warning light you had was red, not orange - then that literally means the level is so low that the pump cannot pick any oil up and the engine is running on no oil pressure. What should happen is the oil level sensor should light the same warning but in orange before that happens.

You'll only get a true reading with the dipstick all the way in. Like I said, it's not vastly overfilled - sounds like your AA guy had his head on. If it took two litres to get there, it was at least one litre too low i.e. well below the minimum level. That certainly wouldn't have been helping with the oil pressure on startup.

Over the 13 years i had my A2 i lost 2 ends on Dip sticks, So i bought a new one but left the old in the engine then swapped them to check my oil, then swap it back again.

I Second this advice & add I use the short dipstick for the mot as that’s when mine broke!
