I have a 1.6fsi and my oil light has just come on. I can not find in the manual what type of oil is used. It states something about longlife oil, but I can find nothing else. Please help. Is it regular motor oil or synthetic orsomething different?

For the Variable Service Interval the oil should be VW 503 00, 506 00 and (crucially) 506 01 approved. The only oil I know that fits this description is Castrol's SLX Longlife II. It is fully synthetic, BTW. My FSI has managed to drink two litres of this in 15 months...[9]

Aw today there are literally dozens of 506 01 oils.. The dealer has Castrol and Esso oils
(at 22 EUR/litre, or 14.8 GBP), I use BP Visco 7000 Longlife II 0W-30 that I found at the local autoshop (at 50 EUR/4 litres, or 33.6 GBP). I use about a litre per 10000 mi on my TDI.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up going to the dealer for a quick fill, but I take your advice and look around for next time.

VW 506.01 spec oil is not commonly available, If this is the spec you want I have one, see here

http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/vwspecs.pdf

Fuchs Titan Supersyn Longlife Plus 0w-30
VW 503.00, 506.00, 506.01

Incl Vat and Carriage Amtrak overnight (mainland UK only) it works out as follows:

5x1 litres £49.49 (stock)
10x1 litres £87.19 (stock)
2x4 litres £73.19 (order)
4x4 litres £129.49 (order)

If 506.01 is not called for then don't waste your money!

Send me details of the Year of the Car, Model, Engine size and Type and I'll get a recommendation for you.

Hope this helps,

Cheers
Simon
