does anyone know what oil i need for my 1.4 petrol please (A2 obv!)? i'm on minimum and i dont understand the manual about all the vw oil stuff.
i was thinking maybe its -5w/40 fully synthetic?

It's very important that you use an oil which meets the VW 50400 spec. This is now recommended for petrol engine 'standard' and long life services.
Diesel engines require VW 50700 spec oil
There a lots of quality synthetic oils out there (like Mobil 1) but unless the above spec is printed on the can there is no guarantee they will provide full engine protection under all operating conditions.
Castrol Edge which is available from Halfords etc is the easiest to get hold of. I think you require Edge 5w30 but check the can for the VW 50400 spec to make sure. It will list other specs as well but this does not matter.
