Open Sky original add-on cost?

Would anyone know how much the Open Sky System added to the base cost of our beloved A2's back in the day? The reason I ask is I have a lovely low-mileage 1.4SE with a working OSS that has now been written off as Beyond Economical Repair thanks to a complete plonker pulling out from a minor road on to a major road without looking whilst my partner was driving the car. As there are no A2's for sale in Ireland, nor has there been for quite some time, the pathetic valuation they are putting on the car needs a giant dose of reality poured on to it as my A2 has a fully functioning OSS. Any help in this regard would be very much appreciated.

In January 2005, Audi charged an additional £765 for OSS added to the SE model. That is inclusive of VAT in the UK.

So sorry to hear of this accident, and your insurers lowballing you (not untypical, sadly). As the UK is also an RHD market, to which you have access, might your insurers be persuaded by prices on Auto Trader, eBay, Gumtree etc. over here? Any low mileage A2 with reasonable history going for sale would be put up for quite a tidy sum on these shores.

Whatever the outcome with the insurers I'd strongly suggest you buy the car back if it's legally repairable. If it's just a matter of removeable panels, that can be sorted. If it's a more specialised repair, you could recoup some of your losses by breaking it yourself, or keep it as a donor car for a replacement sourced from the UK.

What's that in the context of the base model price of the SE, Steph? Somewhere around the 5% mark?

By January 2005 Audi were no longer listing a price for the SE model, and the basic options were £11,995 with a petrol engine or £12,995 with a diesel.

I sent the OP a .pdf of the 2005 price list, my earlier lists are more detailed but only available to me in print so not amenable to sharing.

A bit over 5%, I'd guess 7% without crunching the specific figures.

Assuming car insurance in Ireland is pretty much the same as in the UK, you'll find that claiming via your own insurance is not really the way to go. They'll be covered for the low valuation by their terms and conditions, and the fact that you don't have an 'agreed value' policy.

If the other driver admits liability and is fully insured, you may do better claiming from them.

Thanks guys. The other driver admitted liability so I'm claiming from theirs. As none are for sale on the Irish market their assessor did have to look to the UK for his valuations. He lowballed me initially but backtracked when I made it clear to him I knew what I was talking about. I expect the valuation to be honoured given the classic collectible status of these cars now.

Hi Tsu,
The Audi A2 does not have the age (yet) to have classic car status and associated values. However, I had a lady jump a red light that consequently, wrote of my Saab a couple of years back. She admitted liability (eventually). The insurers offered a small amount for my Saab, it was a mint condition convertible. I simply refused to discuss the value with them until they offered a sensible amount. The lady was being held up in regards to her claim whilst mine was still open….. they eventually offered a reasonable amount. It pays if you have other means of transport as then you have the upper hand and can afford to bide your time. They will come back to you as they have to conclude/close the case. 👍
