Open Sky Repairs at £700??

Whilst reading the article over on the German forum on the electric A2, I came across this article on the repair of the OSS by what I think is an independent garage. Now if they can do it for about £700 so can we?! :)

What needs to be established is if the £700 is for both parts and labour ( from what I can make from it it is for both!) if it is for both then what amount of that is for the parts?

Here is the article:

it's not an Indy, it's Rinner in Bad Tölz. They are an Audi partner.

Thanks for reminding me, I need to call them.

These guys are good and have specialised in the A2 from the beginning, so they know what the story is.

Bret is there any chance of finding all part numbers for this repair and any other costs involved?

it's not that simple.

First, there are the part numbers (which are listed in detail elsewhere on the forum). That's fair enough.

The second part, though, is "what is the problem?"

There's "worn pulley" on the motor
broken cables
broken fixings on the cables that move stuff
broken plastic spacings / runners

From what I understand, the pulley is the easy one, the broken cables aren't too bad.
All of them, though, require that the roof is taken apart and realigned and re-adjusted. I don't know if they use a jig (I doubt it, considering the time taken) and don't know if Audi have published a section in ElsaWin on determining which of the issues it is. Is there such a thing? If not, you're essentially asking a dealer to divulge a major income source....maybe they would, if there was another dealer in the UK interested in finding out. Maybe they won't. I could ask but I'm not going to until that's sorted.

I do know that we're looking at a €200 minimum (i.e. 2 hours + parts), the cables should be the right side of €400 and be doable in a morning.

The article lists a repair as being "around €1000" which at today's rate is over £850. (1.14)

Just got off the phone to Rinner.

Repairs are "normally" around €400. Time needed: "one day". Depends of course on the exact problem, I expounded on that earlier.

You need to book around three weeks ahead of time. They would probably be able to get a replacement under guarantee from Audi IF the car has a full Audi service history.

Hello all,
I have a full Audi service history and would be very interested if they (Audi) would cough up for the replacement/repair.
I had the OSS broken issue with my local Audi dealer and complained that they could not have serviced the roof the past 2 services (it is a part of the service) because I disconnected the switch! They couldn't answer that and said they may not have done it because they couldn't open the roof! Rubbish, they would have reported it, as they are happy to report an engine management light on everytime it goes in and cant find the problem.
Ahh, thats better.. Anyhow I would be interested to see how the repair issue is resolved either in the UK or over in Germany.
I think Audi should be trained up and just get them fixed! Then service them properly from now on!

Oh and yes I have just replaced my broken front spring Audi so you wont be getting £500 from me thanks (now if you'd serviced the roof properly!)
