OSS - is it worth it?

On one of mine with OSS if you drop the rear windows by a few cms it stops the buffetting ( handy if you have full electric windows too ). Its nice but no deal breaker for me given the fact it can throw a wobbly anytime

Agree with all the positive points for OSS, We have owned three A2s over the course of time but only one has had OSS fitted. I can attest that as a result of owning an OSS equipped A2, I would always look to have OSS if buying again now. Yes, the drainage channels need to be kept clean and there are more opportunities for faults etc, but the already discussed positives make up for these known flaws. Having member @Kleynie on hand to service and repair is a massive bonus to owners.

Although I am a big fan of the conventional roof and the aesthetic lines that span it’s length, another often overlooked plus for OSS is the solid feel it gives during rain vice the annoying ping as each droplet echoes off the aluminium lid.

I think it's all been said already.

My A2 has OSS, and I love it. I don't open it that often, because it is noisy above 50mph, but I enjoy it every time I get in the car simply because the cabin is so bright and airy. On a rare warm, sunny day in the Lake District, I love driving around with the roof open and the windows down. My A2 feels like a pseudo-convertible, and there's no chance of going above 50mph over Hardknot Pass anyway!

My sister's A2 doesn't have OpenSky, but is otherwise very similarly spec'd. Whenever I drive it, I first notice that it's darker inside, but I most definitely notice how much less weight there is up top. The added weight of the OpenSky System does make a noticeable difference to the handling. When it rains, though, the cabin of my OSS-equipped car is a lot, lot quieter.

A2s with OSS require a bit more maintenance in that area. The drain channels need clearing out from time to time, the seals need treatment and the mechanicals need lubricating, etc, etc, but it's no great burden.

Cheers,

Tom

I must admit having both we haven’t found much difference the only thing that is noticeable the oss petrol is much quieter than the none oss tdi ? ...I miss the torque of the latter when driving the petrol ..but the petrol is lighter on the steering more nimble .

Had two 1.4i; one with OSS and one without. The OSS makes more windnoise. Sold it, so now I have one TDI90 and one 1.4i; both non OSS. Agree with your description.

Hello, FWIW I own three A2s and I have OSS on all three. I made a point of buying only A2s with an OSS, as I like sunroofs even if I open it only a few times in the year. Two of them (my own 1.4 and my wife's) were working, when I bought them, whilst the one on the FSI was broken (BSS) and it was an expensive nightmare to repair. This said, I like the light coming in from the glass roof even when it's closed and I think that this is one of the things that make the A2 a little bit more special than other compact cars of the same period. Today for example in Italy it's sunny and quite warm so I'll open it, leaving the back passenger's side open 2" to avoid buffeting. Have a nice Sunday!
Stefano
