OSS Spring or Not OSS Spring

Hello. Though I’d post this as a separate questions as it was part of my MOT query. Anyway…

So need new springs for front and rear and notice there are two variants of the rear. Springs for Ams with OSS and springs for those without.

Upon closer inspection on carparts4u it seems that the springs for cars with oss is a few cm taller. I guess that’s to compensate for the extra weight of OSS.

My car has OSS. My question is would it make a material difference if I replaced rear springs with the non-oss variety?

Thanks.

I suspect it would. The rear of an A2 is very light due to its aluminium construction, and it's sprung correspondingly. So having an extra 30kg in the roof makes more of a difference than it might on other cars. You could always test out the theory by putting 30kg in the back of your A2 and seeing how much lower it sits.

Actually I guess it's possible that the higher-weight range springs are required on the OSS A2 to cope with maximum laden weights rather than the difference between OSS and non-OSS when empty. Maybe it just pushed over the safe working boundary of the standard springs.
