Your car history!

I liked Chris' (ULP) car history on his new signature, so thought it might be fun to start a thread. What does our vehicle history say about us??? (Gulp!)
Well here goes for me since I passed my test in 1988!
Let's hear about your old motors folks!! :D

1979 Mini 850(Lime Green!)
1981 Ford Escort XR3 (Silver) - worst car I have ever owned, bought it from a dealer, looked good nick at 7 years old and 55k miles but the bottom was rusted right out of it! Leaks everywhere, wouildnt start. You'd think I learned my lesson with the Blue Oval - sadly not!
1983 Ford Orion 1.6 Ghia (Nimbus Grey)
1987 Ford Escort XR3i (Mercury Grey
1988 BMW 318i (Burgandy)
1994 Citroen AX 1.5D Spree (Tropical Violet) My first diesel and first brand new car in a horrendous colour - what was I thinking!)

2009 Audi A3 TDi Sportback Black Edition (Ibis White)
2012 Audi Q5 TDi S Line Plus ( Daytona Grey)
2015 Skoda Octavia TDI VRS Estate (Candy White)

Fiona's history:

1991 VW Polo 1.0 E (Red)
1995 Ford Fiesta 1.8D (Red)

Cough Cheap rate finance Cough

Practically everybody I knew who got their first job in '94 and '95 (the year I turned 17) ended up with a £99 per month AX 1.0 Spree! You clearly splashed out a bit more on the diesel!

It was the free insurance I was after to build up NCD as I had been on my dads policy till then for the XR3 daftie mobiles etc, then the sensible insurance firms closed that particular loophole! :eek:My AX, 106 and Saxo were all free insurance, the latter for 2 years. So I emerged at the other end with full NCD (provided I stayed with Direct Line) The AX was a great car to drive, and it did 70mpg easily. What a slagging I got for the colour though! Its still running around in Glasgow, I see it now and then and say Ahhh!!

Here's my past chariots of fire (some literally!)
1st: 1979 Vauxhall Viva HC in metallic baby puke
2nd: 1988 Austin Metro HLE in metallic rust
3rd: 1992 Citroen AX (best power:):weight ratio of any car I've had)
4th: 1995 Citroen Saxo SX
5th: 1998 Peugeot 206 LX (electrical problems galore)
6th: 2002 Peugeot 206 GLX
Currently: 2004 Audi A2 (75) TDi Sport; 1966 Triumph Herald 1200 saloon

oh Chris:eek: a skoda and a proper skoda at that!! i remember when i started my apprenticeship the training officer would send me to brown brothers paint shop once a year to get a few cans of whit paint to re spray his Estelle. back in the good old days i helped out at a mates company preparing rally cars, so i know how well these skoda's can go with a bit of tinkering. very strong car and does go to show you don't need loads of hp to have fun--but it helps. i bet you feel better after letting that out the bag? mikee

Brilliant! I had a hunch this would be a fun thread! Thanks for the inspiration Chris! Keep em comin' folks, and no shying away you regulars! Post your automotive past for a nostalgic smile :D

Since I am on the low side of 40 my car history is not too long, but here goes.

1993 - Y reg Ford Fiesta MkI 1.1l (met red) - round the clock, too much rust :D
1996 - F reg Ford Fiesta MkII 1.0 Pop (dark red) - lots of miles, too slow!!!
2001 - R reg Ford Fiesta 1.4 ZETEC 16V - Met blue - liked oil (1l per 100 miles:confused:, sold quickly, before engine gave up the ghost) worst car
2002 - 02/51 Saxo VTR - Arctic Silver - great car, boy racer at heart! First and only brand new car.
2004 - 03/03 Astra GSi (2l Turbo 200hp) - met blue - v. v. quick (sub 7sec 0-60), enjoyed eating front tyres though ;)

Then the car ownership splits since my wife then had her own car!

2006 R reg Seat Arosa - 1.0l - red, lovely car - traded in for the A2
2007 02/52 Audi A2 :D 1.4Tdi SE - both me and my wife fell in love with the car from day 1! Can't imagine ever selling it
2007 06/55 Mazda MX-5 1.8 Option pack in Winning blue - close run thing between the Mazda and the A2 for the best car I have ever owned.

Not as exciting as some of the above, and no real clangers?!! There is still time though!

Cheers,

David

You can't put that one in without an explanation Alan!!!

Bought the Nissan Cherry off my Mum - it was the car I learned in. If I'd learned and understood that cheap, economical Japanese cars were perfectly adequate, then life might have turned out very differently!

Since I am on the low side of 40 my car history is not too long, but here goes.

On the low side of 40, it was surprising that i'm on the 14th car since passing my test 20 yrs ago! Im sure there are plenty out there who will beat that figure though.

Imp (Singer Chamois) 2 was the one. Weighed nothing, full race 998 (they only had 875 as standard) and was quick in the day. Frightened a lot of Cortina 1600e drivers - sadly I still have most of the tuning gear in my loft and I lurk on Imp Forums (Forumi?) hankering after a reunion.
A poor man's 911. Excellent traction in snow and with a bag of wet sand in the 'boot', the steering wasn't so bad either.

1969 Vauxhall Viva 1.1 HL Saloon (Duck Egg) Horizontal speedo!
1970 VW Beetle 1300 (Worst Car) Cold, condensation, unreliable, awful to drive.
1973 Mini 1000, Hasn't everyone had one
1986 Alfa 33 Boxer 4c, (your not an enthusiast until you've had an alfa!)
1982 VW Golf Cabriolet (Best car I have ever owned) Practical, fast, reliable well built and Fun!
1951 Landrover 80" Soft top, Full restoration.
1989 Nissan Micra 1.0
1983 Mercedes 230CE Pillarless Coupe (Silver Blue), Mint & Original.
1983 Mercedes 230TE Estate, a complete dog.
1990 Golf Driver
2000 Golf GT TDi 115bhp 6 speed. (Got stolen, Never seen again)
1997 Mercedes C250TD Sport Estate Auto (Did over 200k, then sadly someone wrote it off) It still looked great, and I think would have done another 200k.
2002 Audi A2 1.4 TDI

1983 Honda 125cc Custom
2004 BMW R1150R Rockster

1970 Cessna 152 (Just had a part share)

I've put what I thought were my best and worst cars. I thought it might be interesting if people did this, should other members be looking at potential purchasers.

A touch of deja-vu (http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3378), but here's our household list:

Had:
'85 Citroen 2CV
'95 Fiat Cinquecento
'98 Fiat Punto 16V
'99 Fiat Seicento
'95 Suzuki Vitara (25 mpg!)
'02 Audi A2 1.4 Petrol
'03 Audi A2 1.6 FSi

Have:
'01 Saab 93 Aero
'03 Audi A2 1.6 FSi
'04 Honda Jazz

Want:
Something with as pretty a rear-end as the Brera but as reliable as an early Golf (the new Scirocco comes close - but not a huge fan of the front - and I notice the new Renaults are all getting similar rears).
4-wheel Meschersmitt
