It wasn’t me, but wish it was. Lovely place, and the St Gallen sausages from the butchers there are amazing!
 
Remember going through the Kanderstag tunnel on a road trip from Gloucestershire to Tuscany in Chrysler Grand Voyager CRD, when the kids were young,they loved it,then went over the Simplon Pass

That would have been on the Car Transporter Train from Kandersteg to Goppenstein through the old Lotschberg Tunnel ? That is still running but don’t know if it still continues on through the old Simplon Tunnel to Domdosola in Italy these days. The Railway Line is BLS ( Bern Lotschberg Simplon ). Main line trains no longer go through Kandersteg. They go underneath through the Lotschberg Base Tunnel from Spiez to Visp / Brig. That’s almost as long as the Channel Tunnel. That line was never set up for the Car Transporter Train. They reckoned there would be a lot of Cars that would not start due Flat Batteries on the longer Tunnel in the cold. We got here last Sunday. Direct Train from Zurich Airport to Brig through the Lotschberg Base Tunnel. Then local train through the Lotschberg Tunnel up to Kandersteg.
 
In 2015 went to an enjoyable concert in the church in the background of your 2nd photo. Chaps playing Swiss horns. Came around with their hats at the end to collect donations! If you are into old steam engines then there is one on the platform at the station.
 
It’s a bit of a disappointment this time. Only Skied 2 Days so far this week. We’ve been Skiing here since 1998. 2 trips some years. My Parents were driving out in Summer for years before that. It has gone really warm today. Fortunately supposed to freeze again tonight with several hours of heavy snowfall. Should be good Skiing tomorrow but we fly home on Sunday.
