Paint defects....

Noticed at the weekend laquer is peeling off on the rear bumper. I assume this is covered by the warranty however before i set a claim/repair in motion has anyone else had this problem? Have to say the faults I am finding with the car do not speak well of the Audi dealer preparation/inspection before I bought the car. Have also found evidence of a poor quality body repair to front passenger door skin and the car was not as clean inside when I took delivery as I had anticipated.

Have never heard of any paint problem. So this is not normal and should be covered by the warrenty.

You may have a problem if the faulty parts have previously been resprayed and can't prove it was an Audi body shop that did it, they will check with a paint thickness measuring device, if the paint isn't the correct thickness they will reject your claim, if you just have taken delivery take it back and complain, always worth doing, be polite and to the point though, no good ranting and raving.

Been to Harrogate Audi today and they say the problem is due to a poor repair. On v.close inspection it is just possible to detect a masking line on the bumper. They were appalled at the door paint problem and agreed the car should not have been allowed to be sold without the paint mismatch being rectified. So back to Grimsby audi......:(

Hi Adrian i live in Grimsby not sure who they use for paint problems as they are to small to do it on site. The paint peeling is due to the panel not beeing scotched up proparly that is if its only the clear coat coming off, i work in a Audi approved body shop though not for general public, and in 10 years we have not had any problems like that very poor job.

Thanks Phil.

I contacted Grimsby on Saturday ( by co-incidence they had been trying to contact me on Friday....). I have agreed to take the car over for them to look at but the tone on the 'fone was very much 'tough sh8t.....nothing to do with us....you were happy when you collected the car...etc etc...'.....My response was along the lines of I am not a bodywork expert and was relying on the quality/reputation of an audi dealer to ensure any paint problems would have been rectified prior to sale. After all they would be happy to knock the value if it was a trade-in situation....

Not what I was expecting and hope if Audi UK are monitering this thread they will ensure their agents in Grimsby are more positively responsive next week...

Surely its covered under some sort of warranty as they sold the car so they should be responseble for the after care. Good look

Cheers Phil

The used car warranty only covers mechanical items, the manufacturers new car paint warranty only applies to repairs where carried out in an Audi paint/body shop.

Paint Problem

I have just collected a new A5 and there are numerous paint defects particularly on the boot and rear bumper.
I went back to the Audi dealer and inspected the car on display in the showroom it also had the same defects. The dealer has asked me to take it to a bodyshop poor request if you ask me. £40 k for a car and they want me to do the running around to sort their problem. I would suggest all Audi owners with Phantom Black cars have a close look at the paint it is like a tarnished effect below the laquer.I will keep this forum updated.

Have you got photo's of paint defect on A5 aas some of the marks are caused from the transport bagging that has come loose and then picks up dirt, the ones at work just need a polish and not painting as you may think

cheers Phil

I am oustide the 30 day period, I have arranged to take the car to Grimsby next Thursday for them to have a look, however I have a sinking feeling I am going to have to pay for the repairs somehow.

Unfortunately since my ex-wife departed my trade contacts have gone.....thats why I had to buy from a dealer this time, first time in ages I have not bought thru the trade or auction.

Hopefully Audi will take on board some of the costs......:(....unles of course you know of anyone.....!

Dealer has agreed to pay to sort out the door paint problem and repair the rear bumper laquer at cost, a solution with which I am happy.

Found more laquer peeling off:mad: This time drivers side roof edge above rear passenger door! This is not good........:(

Do we have any useful links with Audi UK in case the supplying dealer is unhelpful?

Hi - what was the outcome of the paint problem with your A5 - I have a Q7 in Phantom Black with exactly the same problem down one side. Funny thing is that when the car is in the sun and the paint has warmed up the misting / tarnished effect goes. Would be interested to hear how you got on as I am currently in discussion with Audi on this. Thanks
