Paint job - scrapes

Hi guys,

My audi has some scrapes on the wheel arch. I didn't think it would be a major thing to get fixed but the Audi dealer in Cork (Turners Cross Motors) quoted me 450euro plus VAT to repair the wing. Does that seem right to you people that have experience in such things? Help, advice... eternally grateful :)

Cheers.

Once again, an Audi dealer tries to empty someones wallet!

A repair of this sort requires no specialist treatment for aluminium bodywork, as the wing is all plastic!

That's right, it won't rust, rot or flake.

If you can find an indepedent bodyshop who can match the paint, I'd use them and save yourself at least 60%. I'd expect a respray of this sort to cost no more than £120/€180-200.

Cheers,

Mike

You will find because it's an ASF car they charge a higher rate, I can never get my head around why they charge that on a non ally bit of work, they confirmed they had charged a third party insurer that for a new rear bumper (plastic) and rear axle (steel) and a couple of wheels (okay ally but only fitted) following my incident a couple of years back.

They really need to be brought into line and the only people who can do that is the insurers!!

I Had a small bang from behind last year i went to the Audi Approved repairer as u do and they quoted £500+
My Insurance company insisted i took it to there approved repairer which i was not happy about , as i had heard some horror stories about this particular garage, they assured me it would be ok .....
Anyway i took it to them to do the work they had the car 3 days as it was a pearlescant paint colour and only charged me £250 . Upon picking the car up i inspected the bumper and all i could say was WOW an invisible repair and paintjob i was well pleased they also Valeted the car as well .......
Glad i took my Insurance company's advice .....:)

Legally any insurance company can't tell you where to have your car repaired!
They get you hooked in by saying our repairer, free loan car, your repairer no loan car.

I have learnt the hard way; 3rd party's fault, don't even involve your insurance company, tell them you have had a non fault accident and you will be dealing with 3rd party direct, then get the bodyshop to do this for you, they will as they all seem to have schemes in place.

Not intentional to hi jack this thread, but just which parts are plastic on our A2's?

The front wings /bumpers/sills are plastic

I finally got the scrapes fixed. A superb job by Nevilles Garage in Cork. Spotless. And at €220. Much less than the €450+Vat21% quoted by the Audi dealer. I wish we could rely on authorised dealers without feeling we're being ripped off all the time!

Cheers.

Comming from the aluminium business I don't understand why more is charged for aluminium paint repairs. Its the same process for steel panels, same paint same everything.

Structural repairs is another matter though.
