Passenger electric window not working

Today the passenger electric window on my A2 decided not to work anymore.

It does not go up or down (currently closed), and there does not seem to be any power going to it. (The interior lights do not dim when operating the switches). I have tried both the passenger side and driver side switches. I have checked the fuse for the left doors (fuse 41), and it is fine.

The electric mirror adjustment still works on the passenger side.

Is there anything I should try?/What could be the fault?

Thanks,
Tim

My stopped working a little while ago. I was told on here to unplug the battery for a little while and then reconnect. This resets the window and it worked for me

I would second Albiej's suggestion.

If that fails, check the door contacts and if they are ok take the door panel off and check the plug in connections on the motor (passenger door first, then if they are ok do the same with the driver's door.

Just changed my passenger one today.

I did a bit of fault finding as described above, but it was the silver brush motor that is joined to the door module that was faulty.

The window is now working, although my window drop feature doesnt work?

Could the new motor module need coding with vcds? I replaced the whole thing rather than just the silver brush.

Do you mean the "one touch" drop and raise?

If that is what you mean, just switch on the ignition and hold down the "down" until the window is fully down and keep it held for a second or two, then lift it up and hold it there until the window has fully closed and hold it there too for a second or two.

That resets that one touch function.

Sorry if this is not what you meant)

My comments below may be irrelevant to your problem above but I will state them in case they are of use.

My 2002 Passat Sport Estate suffered a Broken cable in the drivers door but the easy/ only option was to buy from my dealer the complete inner galvanised door card complete with all cables fittings etc ready to fit. This I did but found that the window wound up to the top but then came back down about 6 inches each time. Decided to call VCDS with the problem on the offchance that they could help. There was a simple solution which involved the anti pinch mechanism which had to be relearned by the ECU I guess.

Wind the window down using the door button but when it reaches the fully closed position keep pressing the button for a coouple of seconds longer. Then open the window, but again keeping your finger on the button for a couple of seconds longer when it reaches the fully open position.
Hey presto! your vehicle has now reset the anti pinch mechanism. I could only phone Gendan because I have the full version of VCDS. It may also be posible with VCDS as well if you know what you are doing but this self learn facility the B 5.5Passat already has.

Is this relevant to your 'window drop feature doesn't work' ?

The remote window drop Steve

That should not have been lost, it is an option on VCDS but if you haven't changed the settings it should still work, the setting should not have changed..

But you can check the setting and /or change it with VCDS using the following guide

http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?27112-How-to-disable-the-remote-key-operating-the-windows

In that post you said you were going to switch it off, did you?

Did you subtract 64 from the code? If so add it back!!

That was on my FSI Steve, the remote drop query is on my TDI.

Before fixing the motor the drivers side remotely dropped, now both dont drop.

Does vcds class the new door motor as a module? I could try the old part with the motor from the new one.

Changing mechanical parts does not change the settings available in VCDS, for example when you fit Cruise control you have to activate it.

So I cannot see any way that the VCDS codes would have changed, especially since you have to add in 64 to the code to enable it or deduct 64 to disable it. It can only be changed manually.

Have you reset the "throw of the windows" as mentioned (holding down the button beyond the limit (up and down).

Without that the system cannot trigger it.

So do the throw reset and see what happens. Or are you already able to do the auto down and up on both windows using the buttons in the door?

In regards to the OP's question, when you press the window switch for the window, can you hear a slight click noise from the windows door panel?

(You may have to try this at night when it is quiet)

If so, i would say your motor has also gone.

There are some on eBay for less than £15 delivered. Make sure you buy the right side and a front one. Saying that, the silver motor can be removed from any A2 module and fitted to your original module and i would say it is very easy to do yourself in 30 minutes.

It did not click when operating the switch. The problem was fixed by disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes.

Thanks for the advice,
Tim

I managed to fix the problem by disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes.

Once the passenger window was working again, I realised the fully up/down switch function also stopped working on the drivers side, and the remote operation of the windows had also stopped working. I tried the method of holding the switch for a couple of seconds when the window is fully open/closed, which solved the problem. I now have fully functioning electric windows again. :)

Thanks all for your advice. I doubt there are many places where I can get the solution to a problem within 3 minutes of posting my question!

Turns out I have just today had the exact same issue! I'll try the suggestions in this thread and report back with the results...

So I just gave it a go, first time the window started working again, but then stopped when it was halfway down! Disconnected the negative terminal again, reconnected, and now the problem does seem to be resolved! Thanks for the tips, I was worried this might be a much more annoying fix.

Glad to hear that.

By the way, if your key remote has stopped working after the disconnection then do you know the easy way to resolve that?

If not, just put the key in the ignition, turn it on and then press the unlock button, job done.

Just had similar issue
Did the reset press down hold etc etc
Think my after market plastic wind deflectors don't sit in too well nearside front window

Hence throws window out a tad and it decides to come back down halfway .

But
Hey presto back to normal
Pesky blinking A2
Still love it though
👍😁
