Our A2 is due either end of this month or early Oct. If I was to take delivery in the last week of Sept, would I effectively lose a month off the road tax? Would it be worth me holding out until the 1st Oct?

If the answer is yes, we'll have to be very restrained as we've waited long enough already and knowing that its sitting at the dealers ready for us will be a very big temptation indeed.

Rob,

If you waited until February 2003 you could save even more money on road tax. Now stop pratting about and get that car as fast as you can. You know it makes sense.

Its alright for you!!! 2 days time and you'll be driving around in your brand spanking new Golf.:D:D:D

I want the car ASAP but not if I'm going to lose a months road tax for the sake of a couple of days.

Wait until 1st Oct or you will loose a month-you can't road tax for part months so getting you tax say on 27th September would be the same as getting it on the 1st Sept.

You have just spent say £17,000 on a new car and you are worrying about £10 car tax!?

I'm with JD 1000% - pick up the car ASAP!!!!!!!!

Actually dealers can tax a car for part months ie. weeks.
Get the bloody car and enjoy it!

Rob,

Have some heart. Just imagine the car turning up early and the poor baby sitting pushed into an corner of the dealers forecourt feeling dirty, dejected, unloved, and unwanted. How would you like that ?

Of course you could do what I have done in the past which is to go and visit the car every day, but I tell you it gets difficult trying to palm the baby off with excuses. They are too young to properly understand.

I’m sure you will do what you want to do, but don’t start complaining on this forum if someone reports you to Audi UK for baby abuse. In addition I have to be hard in stating that I think its criminal to deprive an A2 from visiting Tesco’s.

I find I prefer to pick up a new car before I have actually decided which one to have - saves having to make a decision, then you can spend many happy hours persuading the dealer to swap the car for the one you really wanted in the first place.
That's how most of my car deals go anyway!

Washed and polished the Punto tonight, then went down Tesco's - just to get in some practice for a few weeks time.

The reason I asked the question originally is that I don't like paying road tax - probably like many of the motorists on our roads. Also £15K is a hell of a lot of money for us to spend in one lump, so every little helps in the future. I know it only works out at £8.33ish a month to tax the car, but its the principle of putting more money in the coffers of the hypocrites running our country - probably to buy more speed cameras.

But if part months of tax are available, our prayers have been answered.

Hi Rob,

I had the same situation with mine last year, however dealer offered a refill of diesel the next time I was in. Made me feel much better. Actually the car hasn't been to the dealet yet once, so still owed the fuel. :D
