Pollen Filter on the A2

Another DIY job done with help from the forum.

I have got to say that this forum is superb and every single bit of advice / tip I read on here is excellent.

This makes A2 ownership such a joy. If I can do some of these DIY jobs with my ham-fisted hands then anyone can. The testosterone is oooozing out of every pore :)

Just about to order a new pollen filter but can't decide whether to get a carbon one or not.How long do they last by the way...?

Think I paid £4 quid for my last one (non carbon) and its fine. For the sake of a cabin filter I'm not bothered that its non oem! No idea how long they last but they're easily cheap enough to change at every service (my old one was full of leaves and soil so I'm glad I did)

Cheers

I've just replaced the pollen filter on my A2 and a few week's ago I had replaced the same filter on my Partner's petrol A2. I was really shocked at just how dirty both filters were! Absolutely black and with lots of solid debris, too. I feel that this filter may become "forgotten-about", so I'm posting this thread because if my experience is anything to go by, then other A2OC members might also need to be thinking of replacing that filter, too?

The pollen filters are bit of a tight squeeze.... I always use the genuine Audi replacements as other non OEM brands tend to not fit so well and there is potential for breaking the black plastic frame.

Afternoon all,

I read this post after just replacing my filter with a carbon pollen one from Amazon (Mann Filter), so I cannot remember which way the filthy filter came out.

Can somebody please let me know the direction of the airflow. Does it:

1. Flow towards the centre console or,
2. Flow towards the passengers A Pillar.

I have fitted the new filter guessing the airflow is option 1 but can quickly swap it around if I have got it wrong.

Kind regards,

Tom

From memory it’s towards the console, option 1, but to triple check you could just run the blower for a few seconds with your hand nearby?

The air always travels towards the center console. So RHD arrow points right and LHD arrow points to the left. Tom you have fitted it correctly.

Trick is to place a large bin liner in the passenger foot well before you remove the old pollen filter.;) That way all the rubbish is contained.

Thanks Graham,

That is certainly what I’ll do from now on as I was quite shocked by how much ‘stuff’ came out. It certainly hasn’t been changed for some time and I was annoyed with myself I hadn’t done it sooner.

Kind regards,

Tom

Good opportunity when it is out to check the heater blower. Spin it with a pencil and see how long it takes to stop, if it barely turns or stops almost instantly then the bearings need to be cleaned and lubricated. This is especially true if you find the pollen filter is wet when you remove it.
