Pollen Filter on the A2

Does the A2 comes with a pollen filter as standard? If so where is it located, and can it be upgraded to a charcoal one?

Thanks

yes. Next to the glovebox. Look underneath and you'll see it. No tools needed, but you ought to have a vac handy. Pull the cover towards you.

Thanks for all the comments pointers. Unfortunately the above URL doesn't work as it gives an error that I do not permission to edit the thread!

Sorry about that. I forgot the guy who supplied the pics left the club in a huff and asked for all his posts to be removed. Only club officials now have access. Something similar happened to his oil filter replacement guide but Skipton (Mike) managed to reformat it for all to see. Maybe we can do the same for the pollen filter

Cheers Spike

Yes, Emm left in a huff and took his ball with him!

So, for the benefit of all, I'll post the guide again, using an easy photoguide:

The pollen filter is located in the passenger footwell (UK cars) behind the glovebox. There is a trim cover (in the same colour as the rest of the internal trim) that hides a black plastic retainer, behind which is the filter element and holder.

You'll firstly need to take off the trim cover:

Then, when the cover is off, remove the black retainer by pulling the 2 clips to the middle and then wiggle it down and away.

Then, you can pull the element out - it sits in a fragile plastic frame and you'll have to tilt it as it drops to clear the carpet. Take note of the direction of airflow, as written on the side of the element and replace the new one in the same orientation.

Refitting is the reverse of removal - note that the black plastic retainer is a sod to get into the right position - it must go fully in and positively lock, otherwise the trim cover won't fit back in place!

Cheers

Mike

Thank you

Thank you all for your contribution to this. I have now placed an order for a Charcoal Pollen Filter with Stoke Audi and hope to fit this soon.

Cheers

Just got my carbon pollen filter and wondering if it's the right part. It's entirely square, about 20cm along each edge and about 2cm thick. Is this correct? I can't view the images on the German forum and in the above image of the access panel, that's rectangular-shaped. Have I got the right part?

little tip if you have problems getting the plastic carrier out and in as i did. on mikes photos you can see the silver torx screw remove this and the plastic on the dash can be manipulated.mine wouldnt come out without doing this.:)

Guys does the plastic frame that surrounds the filter come with it?
or whats the part number as Mine is almost two pieces.

I found refitting is easier, if the filter is left protruding a couple of inches and the retaining clip is then fitted to the filter, and then the whole pushed into place as one, the clips then slide into place. Bill.

Just replaced mine and the last one was filthy - think of all them particles finding their way into the car!

bit of tip - sprinkle a few drops of your favourite essential oil and you get a blast on start up--- mind you it has to be your favourite or you will quickly get sick of it !!

Why I needed to change my pollen filter

I think my filter was due a change too

Only took ten minutes, no tools required and the air flow out of the vents has been transformed for the better. Highly recommended DIY job.

Filter cost £14.71 from my nearest Audi dealer.

Can I just add, please please wear disposable gloves when doing this job.

A mechanic friend of mine caught pneumonia from handling a pollen filter and ended up in hospital, it was later taken away and analysed by the enviromental health and the source found.

Better to be safe than sorry fellow forum members.

David.
