Poor wiper performance

Hi I've a 2002 1.4TDi. I had it for 2 years and for the part the wiper performance has been poor in both clearing the screen and noisy. Fitting a new blade assy only improved it for a short time despite regular screen cleaning.
I have now learned that some time in 2002 the arm assy was modified.
Does any body have any thoughts on weather the later version will fit earlier cars and if it was a improved function change.

Thanks John

Hi Yes the new version arm will fit, Vag parts show that they sell it, but I have attempted to purchase one for a few weeks and they are out of stock.
As for the improved function I can't as I have yet to try it.
Another note is that I saw there is a aero type of blade replacement that simply clips onto you existing wiper arm, saving the expense and hassle of changing the whole arm and blade.

I posted a thread about this type a little while ago, will try to find it for you.

new wiper type arm.

Hi Magicjohn/ sarge786,
I can reccomend the new type w/wiper arm + foppy wiper, much inproved soundwise also screen cleaning wise. I managed to purchase my new Arm set-up from a scrappers yard, cost around £25 -00 or so, so give it a try (seeing that Vag-com have no stock anyway).
One thing to watch out for: is the removal of original arms, mine were seized on solid!! give them plenty of penatrating oil and leave for 10 minutes or so, the two splines are tapered in shape 'cone' wise, the two arms come loose with a snap/bang noise so be careful, lastly when you are ready to fit the new/ replacement arms put a little copper grease (or like) on the splined 'areas' before re-,fitting, that way you will be able to remove them eas'ily, if ever needed to, in the future,
Cheers ALAN.
Ps, the new floppy wipers cost around the £10/11 mark, and they measure 30" in length--(total).WORK GREAT!!!

Anyone any ideas where i can purchase a floppy blade? For my 51 plate, i imagine i have the old design?

Will i need some sort of adaptor, or has someone started making floppy blades that will fit with the old wiper setup?

I've read the posts on here but they are all very confusing. Vagparts from what i can see don't sell assemblies/adaptors to change from old style to new style of wiper?

I've looked on ebay but had no luck?

If you want to fit the new floppy blade, you'll have to fit the new style arm too. Either a dealer or VagParts will be able to supply the arm and blade, but there is currently a shortage if arms in the UK.

You can just buy an old style blade to fit your existing arm for the time being, but again, only VagParts or Audi dealers will stock them.

Cheers

Mike
