Potential Bose killer - easy install

if one has an A2 with the rear door speakers (with the amp for these in the floor) is it easier to hookup an active sub by tapping into the power and audio signal from the under floor amp rather than pulling head unit out and running cables down etc etc?

I've successfully installed a bluetooth/USB adapter by removing the head unit but really don't want to do it again... ah ha ha...

in theory, the active sub would turn on when the under floor amp turns on and it would get the same audio the rear speakers get but just run through the sub's crossover?

would I be in danger of blowing a fuse by not getting power from further up the system? keep in mind I'd be getting a tiny under seat type sub

A couple of drawbacks with that:

1) normally speaker outputs are considered not as good as signal output
2) powerwise you should check the crossection of the powerwire and fuse to the original amp
3) my HU has a dedicated sub out line, and crossover. So I can remove deep bass from front and rear speakers and let sub take care of that. You can not do that using speaker outputs
4) you need to cut into the original wire harness

> its very easy to pull power directly from battery, also found it easy to pull line from HU to sub

The stock head unit doesn’t have a sub pre out as far as I know... also it doesn’t have crossover to feed the sub as there is no out for it?

So stock stereo will have to feed line out to sub regardless?

Unless it has a pre out for the amp in floor which means I’d be tapping into the pre out and I believe the sub kit has it’s own variable crossover so it will output to in floor amp a crossed over signal...

Check the outputs from your HU, but agree, there is probably not one. Not sure if the rear Blaupunkt amp receives line or speaker.

Yes, the sub will anyway have a crossover. Drawback with the original HU is that you can not remove LF from door speakers (as Bosekit does)

I think the solution above is basically what I was proposing for the A2...

Comparing this setup now with the factory Bose, this setup outperforms Bose in all aspects..

The endless adjustments and tuning to your personal preferences ensures this. The setup and sound is just like Bose, but simply better and with more headroom.

Hi, just been reading through this thread out of interest because I am weighing up if I should buy a new headunit with dab bluetooth 7 iphone aux connectivity or just go the adaptor route with the original Concert 2 head unit.

I'm a newbie to the A2 so have some basic questions,

So after spending some more time with your pioneer set up are you still happy with it ?

Do you know what the current equivalent of your Pioneer head unit would be as it is not available on the Halfords website ?

I get the impression that the general advice is to stick to the OEM headunits where possible.

Why is fitting a non OEM headunit into the A2 considered difficult ?

Best regards,

Raymie

Fitting an aftermarket HU isn't difficult, with the correct adaptor. But, getting the right adaptor is difficult.
Plus the Concert/Chorus looks right. Aftermarket HUs? Not so much (imo).
Mac.

Damned technology! Car link it is then
Can you share your experince after you will install it? I am also looking for the adapter route, but I still have a few months to decide, because I need to first sort out other issues. I have Concert I radio.
What I have found until now:

I've been looking at an adaptor from bass junkies for pioneer head unit, they are checking all the info to see if it works OK. Info like the above thread said about canbus and also the dis screen on the dash etc

Still happy with the Pioneer! With the Pioneer I get internal crossover functionality, so I can remove the bass from the door speakers and instead send all that to the dedicated subwoofer.

I have another A2 with Bose and the big navi HU, but the Pioneer setup plays better in my opinion

Here are the adapter kits I used:

Antennetecknik 472602 FM/DAB adapter. Using the original FM antenna also for DAB. Not perfect as need a strong signal, but I stream radio via bluetooth anyway

Fasia end adapters so HU blends in:

The cheap Pioneer X7800 headunit continues to impress me; just realize that the builtin crossover also work on the speaker outputs. So the Pioneer can do exactly the same as the Bose ie remove all bass from the front and rear door speakers. In fact you can individually choose the crossover frequency and slope in -6/12/18/24db etc.

Such functionality we paid top dollars for 20 years ago.

Did I mention it pair two phones simultaneously?

Just get more and more impressed by this setup! Just need to spend som time to tune it in
Hi @Olerype,
Well after reading your post I purchased a Pioneer head unit : DEH-s720 DAB which I am hoping is equivalent in spec to the X7800.

Just got to get around to fitting it now as when I first popped the head unit out I was not fully prepared...
- mounting DAB aerial to windscreen
- sourcing ign switched 12V live
- connects to Audi adaptor

Once I get the HU running then Phase #2 will be to replicate your sub woofer install under the seat !

About DAB aerial I just used a adapter so I use the original OEM arial also for the DAB. Not perfect as you need a strong signal. But I did not prioritize this as I normaly listen to Spotify, or stream radio via the phone

Recommend the subwoofer, and removal of bass from the door speakers. Everything will sound better
