power intermittent acceleration

Can anyone help?

I have an A2 1.6 FSI 02 plate and i'm having some problems with acceleration. The car idles fine but as I pull away or when driving along and accelerate hard (to overtake or to pull out) there is a 'lull or a delay in power, then it realizes that I want power and it kicks in but usually to late. Also when driving normal it has a juddering feel, like intermittent power.

I have had a new EGR valve fitted (audi diagnosed) and problem not solved and now not wanting to have another diagnosis at £50 a pop.

Appreciate any help.

thanks

Hi Hammer and welcome,

A full diagnosis will inevitably be the way forward. Depending on your location you may find someone on here with the VAGCOM kit that can help rather than pay stealer prices, so it is worth an ask.

The FSI is prone to go through coil packs like a child in a sweet shop, so this could be your problem here.

Cheers,

Darren

thanks Darren,
had someone look at it yesterday and had no fault codes, They think it could be the Cat converter thats causing a blockage and then thats causing the intermittent power. Waiting for the quote to fix it......

Cheers

A blocked cat? That's a new one on me - is it making any rattling noises? I would put that explanation to the bottom of the list and look first at the usual suspects of coil packs, lambda sensors and blocked injectors. Also, are you running 2star or proper super unleaded? The FSI petrols are highly sensitive to octane and sulphur levels.

Thanks dan_b
I was a bit surprised by the cat explanation myself and have put this on hold. I have decided to have another Audi diagnosis and hope for the best. Over the last couple of weeks I have switched to a super unleaded and used some injector cleaner this has helped but by only by 5% in truth. When accelerating the engine sounds like it has an air leak (nearly stalling when pulling away) causing the lack of power, but this was thought to be the EGR valve so you thought to check the sensors could be right.

cheers

Finally sorted the problem. It took them a while to source but It turned out to be the throttle body. This has been replaced and now running fine. Of course this was after having a EGR valve fitted !
cheers
