Power Loss 1.6 FSI

Hi,

he told me to ignore the misfires as they are down to the way the car is running.

He said the only faults that matter are the top 2.

Thanks for your reply.

I agree with that but the misfire count should help diagnose if it's the injectors. It could be you need you need a Manifold Tuning Valve Position Sensor (G336) which gives set point not reached error code if not working properly. Depending on how bad it is you can clear it and it won't reappear for hundreds of miles if it's on it's way out. When it gets really bad it will re light up again a few miles after you have reset it. Also get him to check the N316 valve, it should hold a vacuum i believe.

Providing you have a Windows laptop, you can get VCDS-Lite as a free download, although the free version has limitations on its use:

You need to buy your own connector, cheap enough on eBay, and you can add more functionality by paying a registration fee. But plenty of A2 owners get away with sticking to the free version as is, so that's worth bearing in mind.

The mechanic was showing me the engine wiring loom which has been fooled around with. Its all taped up and definitely not original.

Would it be a big job changing the engine loom ?

Its getting the the stage, i’m close to breaking it which i really dont want to do.

Also the mechanic said both the codes 17428/17439 are coming on that the exact same time. Its not like one is coming on then another is coming on a few mins/miles later.

I'd go with fuelling first. That fits your observation that if you accelerate very gently, it runs well. Simple thing like fuel filter? If it's been changed, check it's the right way round.
Come back to flaps and possible cable faults later. You can't solve two different faults at the same time (unless you're very lucky). Focus on one, chase it down. When fixed, look at the next one. Trying to associate the two codes, 1020 and 1931 will only confuse things. Good luck.
Buy your mechanic a coffee and sandwich.
Mac.

PS: Get as much Shell Nitro (99 octane) in the tank as you can, asap.

I'd also agree with this double check fuel filter. Might be that. I had one fsi that was virtually undrivable when I bought it and like yours wouldn't accelerate and loads of codes. A new fuel filter sorted most of the issues.
I had another fsi that had similar faults to yours relating to fuel pressure, I never got to the bottom of that issue but think I had a short in the wiring loom. Mine would run OK when cold but as soon as up-to temperature it would run horribly and eventually stall. One theory I had was a short in the loom near the lower temperature sensor as when I broke the car there was a section that was full of water inside a plastic sleeve in that area. Maybe worth a look.

I’ll get a fuel filter tomorrow and stick some Super Unleaded fuel in it and see how i go from there.
