Power Steering gone again

Just to bookend my own experience, here's a link to a tweet on the subject:

The pump was retrieved from the car and was ringing wet with water internally. The garage asked if I'd driven through much standing water, adding the comment "We know you can't avoid it around here"

Ok, the pump is now in.
This item is far better than the (I believe) UK-sourced pump that went in in 2021 and which had failed. The garage has reported the following:
1) The sealing on this pump is far better than the previous one sourced from elsewhere.
2) On closer inspection it was possible to SEE INSIDE the previous pump because of the lack of seals.
3) Having raised this with the place they sourced the previous pump from, they were told that as it was water damage, the warranty was invalid.
4) Inside a wheelarch is a still a stupid place to locate a power steering pump.
Very pleased with the outcome, having found this supplier via eBay. They even contacted me to check which of possibly two different pumps the car may have had fitted in the first place.

Thx for sharing your experience. I do recommend always using a quality aftermarket parts vs. noname parts.
Strange, that your pump was wet. Are you sure that you have all the undercarriage plastic trim, that protects it from splashing, still on the car? I did not get an impression that powersteering pump on my car was wet at any time.

The previous pump was around £400 from a UK seller and was supplied as a rebuilt and guaranteed item, save for any water damage.
That's a fairly major caveat when it lacks proper sealing...
This replacement shown above was £189 from the eBay seller plus £35 postage. The reports from the garage is that it's head and shoulders above the more expensive item in terms of finish.
The December 2021 pump that replaced the original had water swilling around the in the bowl because it was so poorly sealed, just to reconfirm, this was the £400 part. So it failed at under a year old. I've been chasing faults on the power steering for months. It seemed so unlikely that the pump would just be full of water.
The car is completely original underneath with all the trays in place etc.

The picture on the eBay link doesn,t look like A2 power steering to me.
 
@Ami What about any of these part codes which are on the add?

From the parts catalogue there were two version depending on your PR code. Without checking I would say one is for the system with the steering angle sensor and the other without. It is vital the correct one is obtained. Yes there does appear to be several other part numbers out there but have no evidence of compatibility....

The PR code is found on the options sticker beside the car battery and also in the service book.


Be aware in nearly every case there is a deposit required that is refunded when you return your existing unit.

What is a PR code?
 
PRoduction code is the list of factory fitted standard and options the car was bought with.
 
Yes as I said above and also in front of the battery in the car boot.
