Private Plate Transfer?

I have a Private Plate that is on a retention cert and was wondering what is the best way to go about putting this on a used car that has just been bought?

Would i ask the seller for the whole Log Book to send off with the cert? Or am i able to send this with the new keeper part?

Can the plate be transferred if the car is un taxed? Or would i need to tax the car on its old plate then send the documents off and they change the tax to the new number?

I would like to put the plate on asap rather than have to wait for a new log book in my name then send it back off again.

The quickest way would be to send off the retention certificate with the whole log book when registering it your name.

So if the seller will give it to you do it that way, I think with the new tax law you will need to tax it asap.

This is what I did with mine, recently only took 10 days or so

Thanks for the help. I will ask for the whole Log Book and send everything off together.

You can put the plate on with the small green slip you don't need the whole log book. The seller can refuse to give you the full V5 document because it is their responsibility to use it to notify change of ownership.
The only exception is that if the green slip has been stamped by the post office or DVLA then you can't use it for the transfer.

You should tax it online anyway at the point at which you buy the car, the tax can then be transferred to the new number when you apply for the transfer.

One thing though, the new tax disc changes might have changed something. You can phone the DVLA Cherished transfer department and ask / check, they are very helpful.
