Pro Boost FSI remap

I've got another batch on their way from Germany soon. The process is, I will send you the remapped ECU with a surcharge on your existing ECU of £40. This will be refunded when you send your old one back to me (all postage charges are included in the price). This is done so that you do not have any downtime with your car.

Okay, thanks. I'll speak to my mechanic - as I'd like him to fit it. Assuming it's a 15 minute job to root around in the passenger footwell? Also, did you mention that it'll disable the immobiliser?

Happy to take it to PM to finalise arrangements.

Thanks again Steve.

Evening all,

The second batch of 4 has now been reserved before it even arrives.

Have started a waiting list if you wish to be added and requests will be dealt with in order of receipt.

In a week or so time, we should have 7 members running the map which should hopefully give some good feedback.

Well car continues to run well, without hesitation around the lanes and hills. Most of previous driving was MWay.
I think I may risk 95ron fuel on the next fill.

It would be interesting (to me, anyway) to see a VCDS scan taken just before the ECU swap.
Mac.
I think that Mac's broader idea here is excellent. For those that have the ability to scan their car for fault codes, it would be really interesting and informative to do a scan before and after the ProBoost map is used. This will help members to get a much clearer idea of which specific faults are dealt with by using the ProBoost map.

Cheers,

Tom

As discussed (and guided by you) via WhatsApp Tom, the ECU’s are mapped on a bench and so there will be some historical codes stored on the ECU when first installed because the ECU doesn’t have all of the sensors required plugged in when it’s sat on a bench.

This isn’t anything to worry about, it’s just part of the mapping process, but get a before and after as Mac has suggested you would need to clear the codes once the new ECU is installed using a code reader.

It's more the "before" scan I am interested in. I'm guessing the ProBoost users will, typically, be in one of two groups, those who had problems, and for whom the ProBoost map is a fix, and those who see the ProBoost map as an general improvement to a fault free FSI, with the ability to run on 95 octane as a valuable bonus.
When assessing performance, economy and driveability with the ProBoost map, compared to the OEM map, on a specific car, I believe it is important to know if the assessment of the OEM map is based on an engine running as Audi intended (on 98/99 octane), or an engine running with known faults (typically, inlet manifold related).
Mac.

I am in Chobham in Surrey so if anyone wants a VCDS scan done Just shout

Fantastic news, Ian, and a very kind offer.

I'm in Byfleet, and drive through Chobham most week days. I'd be delighted to try to help add to the sum of knowledge on A2OC with a scan before and after. I'm expecting mine to arrive in the next few days.

Good to see this happening

Be sure to clear any stored fault codes after fitting and then run for a day or 2 before scanning again to get your before and after. As mentioned previously, the remaps are done on the bench and so the ECU will pick up some codes from the sensors that are not connected during the mapping process.

Ian, I'd be happy to follow the instructions from Tom (Timmus) and Steve (A2Steve) and fit the ECU when we have the VCDS equipment right there. Is that okay with you…?

Good evening Gents

I have been running the Pro boost remap for 1 week now, I had no EML showing before the remap but the car was a little hesitant on acceleration. After the remap I still noticed a slight hesitation but continued to use shell V power fuel and added Redex also and slowly the hesitation cleared.
The car runs like a dream now very smooth an even more pleasurable driving experience.
I am amazed by the difference. The car feels like new.
Steve thanks for the hard work and persistents you have put into the remap.
Spence

I’m not sure whether that was the injector cleaner that did the job or the remap ? but either way it’s running right now and the remap will give you the peace of mind that you shouldn’t have flap issues in the future and better longevity of the plastic pipework.

Have answered re the VCDS in Chobham.

Thanks Ian. It's very kind of you to help me offer up my low mileage '03 FSI to the A2OC data gods. ;)

Hopefully the VCDS will provide some solid data for this thread. @timmus and @A2Steve (or anyone else with expertise of the FSI) , if you have any particular requests for Ian to gather from the before after tests, please let us know.

All of batch 2 have now found homes and a larger batch of 5 are on their way. 2 of these have been pre-ordered to @slumdog and @Valpen so please get in touch if you want one of the remaining 3.

Thanks

For info I have now covered nearly 1000 miles with the ProBoost mapped ECU. The car continues to be a joy to drive, although I miss the low revs torque of the Tdi.
I am running on Shell V Power.
I also have my original ECU still available, so if anyone with VCDS wants to do a before and after, swapping ECU's, I am happy to co-operate.

Hi folks,

Met @Ian Bigg yesterday in his lunch hour at Fairoaks airport in Chobham and he very kindly ran a VCDS (before ECU pro boost map fitting).

Here are the results.

Initial fault codes:

Ian then cleared the codes and ran other scans on non-engine related areas of the car - these ones look like they may need investigation by an A2 electrical specialist, so including just on the off-chance one or two are reading this.

From reading Steve's comments earlier in this thread, I don't think I am going to be able to clear any faults off the new ECU before using it, but I have agreed with Ian we'll meet again once I've used a tank and a third of fuel, when he'll re-scan with the new ECU.

Despite instructions from Steve I've not yet managed to remove the original ECU and I don't want to break the plastic clips, so I'm waiting to watch a video Tom Timmus made for another owner, which I'm hoping to receive today (didn't come through successfully on WhatsApp, for some reason!).

Big thank you to Ian for giving up his time so generously in order to help give this thread and those interested some data. I'm no mechanic but I could feel the stuttering misfire intermittently and the VCDS shows this indeed exists. I have been using Shell premium fuel but I guess previous owners may not have done. In any case, looking forward to getting the new one plugged in and taking the car out for a run.
