Pro Boost FSI remap

Yes!

  • I disconnected the NOx/Lambda Sensor from the NOx Controller and started the engine, no error code!
  • I then disconnected the NOx Controller and started the engine, no error code!
  • A 5 minute test run did not trigger any error codes either. Otherwise I did not notice any different in the engine behavior.

I think you may need a longer run, in my testing however on a different engine, it takes a while for the rear lambda sensor error to show if it’s not there, also I think it needs 2 or 3 cycles to trigger an EML

Before the remap I asked Adrian at Pro Boost Engineering:
Will the combined Lambda/Nox sensor, placed after the main Cat, still be needed after the SW modification? I mean will the Lambda part (of that sensor) still be operational? I am asking because my NOx sensor is faulty.

Adrians answer:
As far as i remember I also tested this situation during the development (even plugged it off completely) and you won’t have to replace it with the new Software.

Hi, the statement that 'The lambda/NOX sensor is unique to the A2 FSI and not used on any other VAG cars!' is incorrect, this type of NTK sensor is used on some variants of the VW Golf 1.6 FSI under NTK part number NZA04-V1. In fact the only difference in the sensors fitted on Golf & A2 FSI is the length of cable that plugs into NOX controller (the A2 one is longer & has a rubber sealing boot on it- the electrical wire colouring & end plug is the same). I fitted a VW Golf NOX sensor to my A2 FSI around two years ago by splicing the electrical cable from original sensor onto the Golf sensor & it has been fine ever since. If you're patient & keep a look out on ebay a new Golf NOX sensor can be bought for under £100.
Thanks for that info, its good to know that the sensor is more wide spread even if the application (i.e. wiring) is not directly compatible from the other applications. The wiring can obviously be made compatible and that at least means there is a better chance of obtaining a sensor in the future.

regards

Andrew

That’s interesting so it doesn’t use the rear lambda for trimming at all?

Just spotted this AMAZING thread, as you know I've done my first video on the FSi manifold fixes that I need to deploy on my two but due to bad weather, light and family stuff I've not had a chance to revisit, this could certainly be a great approach for at least one of them. Whats the process to order @A2Steve ?

I have one remapped ECU left in stock from the current batch, if you would like it then please get in touch.

The next batch will be another 2-3 weeks before arriving.

Ok, so last Wednesday Spud my FSI was fitted with a ProBoost mapped ECU.
Drove home and found no real performance improvement, BUT, the hesitation, almost like a misfire when accelerating had gone. This hesitation only occurred below about 3000rpm. Idle is steadier at 800rpm.
So, from Friday morning to Saturday night I put 600 miles on. Mostly motorway, cruising at 70, except through roadworks, and a bit of town driving. Averaged 42mpg, on Shell V Power.
So far I am pleased!

As I said a slight hesitation when accelerating from below 2000rpm, but it cleared by 3000rpm. I suspected the flaps were a bit sticky, so just wanted to ensure they did not become a problem!
Idle was a little uneven.

What’s the mileage on your FSI?

No scan before fitting, but scanned on Friday and 3 faults below thrown up.
Faults were cleared and after a run none re-appeared

Mileage is approaching 135k.

What a great thread! A2Steve, thanks for all your sleuthing and work to help our A2 FSIs. Mine 03 plate with 70k also has the slight stutter, though I've not noticed what RPM it occurs at.
I have only had mine a year and still have my trusty 1.4 petrol, which I've owned since 2003, so don't really want to sell on, until I am utterly sure the new addition has proven its reliability.
For that reason, I'd be keen to get a remapped ECU and to keep the car going in the meantime. Do you still have a spare ECU for loan/swap?

I've got another batch on their way from Germany soon. The process is, I will send you the remapped ECU with a surcharge on your existing ECU of £40. This will be refunded when you send your old one back to me (all postage charges are included in the price). This is done so that you do not have any downtime with your car.

Did those faults come with the donor ECU

Hi,
Does this "slight stutter" trigger any errors on a scan? If not, then you don't have a flap problem. If you don't have a flap problem, then the cause of the stutter needs to be found. The ProBoost map is not (my opinion) a silver bullet for all possible faults. If you have a flap problem, then the ProBoost map is an alternative to refurbing the flap, but only providing the flap is fully open at rest. If it's gummed up, it may not be, and will still need to be cleaned up enough to allow it to open fully.

@PlasticMac have a read of the thread on the German forum. Its not too bad reading it using Google translate. The project wasn't started with the aim of deleting swirl flap function, it was to eradicate poor/lumpy running and acceleration. It was more than just a flap delete mod, a lot more research went into it than that. Its just a shame that I cannot give more technical advice on the actual tuning to answer more in depth queries.

@A2Steve , it's just that I don't recognise the "poor/lumpy running and acceleration" in my FSI. The standing start acceleration is not earth shattering, and below 3000 rpm it's pretty average. Get above 3000 rpm and it really is a closet GTi.
