Project 250 (2005 Dolphin Grey TDI BHC)

Hi David,

Yes the interior has cleaned up absolutely beautifully. Still not managed to remove the second rear seat from the other A2 though, haven’t had the time to try so far.

Regards the plastics, no I have gone a different route and choosing a leather boot type finish. I’m trying to perfect my leather sewing skills to make my effort look like the factory stitching on the gear stick gaiter. I’m getting there but haven’t played with my test materials for some weeks now. The seam opening will be on the front out of view under the armrest itself. I’ll finish it off soon enough though.

The armrest is already bolted down and performing it’s duties as required.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom

Does the AMI port (8P0035785) give display of track info when using the Tune2Air adapter? (Previously used on in our A4 but honestly can't remember as retrofitted carplay early last year

Evening Steve,

Just remembered I owe you a Pm regards coding of your new equipment. I’ll get onto that later on.

The simple answer to your question is yes, the track information from stored or streamed music from your connected devices scroll along the top of your DIS in the Infotainment area. I have only tried Amazon music but cannot see why other service providers wouldn’t show the same on DIS. I also get the station name when using streaming Virgin Radio from the iOS app.

Kind regards,

Tom

Nice, might go down this route as the Bluetooth music that Bart provided in the loom doesn’t display anything and I’d prefer a little more info!

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

Now that you have a factory Bluetooth module then yes the absolute best option is undoubtedly the factory AMI for streaming. Of course with a Tune2Air device should you prefer wireless connectivity.

I honestly don’t know of any better solution for seamless and fantastic streaming quality than the AMI. It hands-down beats the Xcarlink I used to use.

Do I see you investigate wireless charging soon?

Kind regards,

Tom

Assume Bart made you a look to include the AMI?

Thanks

Evening Steve,

For this particular A2 I asked Bart to add the AMI and BT Tel module looms to the Mini ISO to Quadlock adapter as I was retrofitting these all in one sitting. This also saves on the bulk behind the RNS-E as you know.

Bart can of course supply the AMI loom for you labelled up ready to add onto your existing setup though, don’t purchase the PnP harness adapter as it adds more bulk and will be slightly cheaper.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

After receiving a set of Front Fog Lights earlier this morning from a fellow member (thank you) I wasn’t sure which of the Dolphin Grey A2s would be wearing them.

After deciding that it’ll be Project 250, 90 minutes later all was compmete. Very happy with the outcome here for the increased safety when the need arises, plus I think the look is improved.

So here is the dirty A2 before:

You'll probably notice the damaged headlamp protector, devastated. Fortunately I have a spare set!

And here it is 90 minutes after.

Quite a straight forward retrofit which I’m quite sure will not be noticed by the main driver of this A2.

Tomorrow will see both daily’s getting some pampering prior to the social this weekend.

Enjoy your weekend when I comes.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

A great start to the weekend here at 2work Towers:

This is the second MOT In our ownership. Still going strong with no advisories at over 220k miles. This is a good sign that I don't have any immediate work required on the current fleet. Should now be able to devote some attention to Project RN53 and the pending new-comer - The Merlot FSI.

Might have to treat this amazing bargain purchase later on. Maybe a Q5 QI Wireless Charger for that cable free environment I prefer and enjoy in Project OEM.

Have a great weekend.

Kind regards,

Tom

Wait - did I miss something, you’re taking on the Merlot car offered for spares or repairs Tom?

Couldn’t go to a better home if so! Looking forward to reading about that one.

Morning David,

Yes the spares or repairs Merlot FSI in Stamford will be viewed/collect on Monday. I was very fortunate to be online to register interest and manage 'first dibs'

I'll view it armed with a fresh battery, 5L of fresh fuel and VCDS to see if its something within my ability. I'll not take it on if I realise its got further issues that are simply beyond my ability as I wouldn't be purchasing it to sit on my driveway to become a breaker. There is a long list behind me and quite sure this one will be saved by another member if not be me.

Stunning colour though!

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

You may have recently seen on the Today I... thread that I fitted a Soul Elasticated Storage System to Project OEM. It looked ok but really needed to be Twist in colour. I couldn't bring myself to attack such a nice rare item with the Volico Twist paint so had to search for a factory Twist variant. Rather lucky for me I was able to obtain such an item from a fellow member (thank you very much indeed).

The Twist replacement was fitted minutes ago which left the Soul item redundant..... For only a few minutes though as it now resides in this cracking A2:

Morning all,

Another thread that’s been dormant in recent months.

In the background I have been watching what I spend funds on as I’ve been considering having a MYP gearbox upgrade on this utterly awesome bargain A2, mainly as it’s GPK gearbox has been crunching into third gear for a few months now. To the point that the other driver here has not stopped complaining about it, clearly my fault!

Before finding a replacement gearbox though I thought it would be a good idea to change the current gearbox oil with some fresh Audi fluid.

After chatting with Kraig @kraig22, he offered to assist with this task and also adjust the cables if necessary, amazing how helpful our membership are. We really do have a great community.

A date was set which was this earlier today and I drove an extended route to Kraig22 Towers to ensure the oil was warmed up. Car was quickly jacked up and a couple of components removed to make the job easier. During this stage, the dog bone was noticed to be quite loose and pretty a much had failed. Fortunately Kraig had a very good used spare to replace it with. Winner!

Judging by the colour of the oil, this task was was long over due. After refilling with the fresh Audi fluid the linkage was adjusted along with the replacement dog bone fitted.

I don’t drive this particular A2 very much at all but have been annoyed at the crunch into third 80% of the time the gear was used is frustrating.

Very happy to report all is well now though.

The drive home was simply spot on and my thanks must go to Kraig again for his time on a Saturday who could have been spending quality time with his lovely family opposed to chatting to me on his driveway.

Kind regards,

Tom

So does it crunch at all now Tom or is a six speed still on the cards?
Evening David,

Hope all is good way down the road. Maybe one day Project 250 will join the 6-speed club, but for now all is good since parking up on Kraig's driveway this morning:

Such a relief that a replacement gearbox isn't necessary at this time.

Evening all,

Most of you will know that after an unanticipated purchase of a certain Jaipur Red A2 back in December leaves this splendid A2 surplus to requirement, as such it has been available in the Clubs Market Forum (if you cannot follow the link then consider upgrading your account) for the last week or so:

It is now reserved and is due to be collected this coming weekend. The next owner will no doubt reveal themselves after the weekend and possibly continue with this thread. My final contribution to this thread will be a farewell post when the batten is handed over on Saturday.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello all,

The terrific workhorse which this thread is about has recently departed our driveway and ownership.

Neil @tnpali01 has been handed the batten to continue what was started here at 2work Towers.

Neil I hope you enjoy your new purchase as much as we have here the last 2-3 years, it was always supposed to be a keeper with us but you can never anticipate the change of heart when presented something in Jaipur Red.

My heartfelt thanks of course go to many members on here who assisted me in progressing this A2 to where it got to in regards its appearance and specification. Thank you all so very much.

Please do welcome Neil to the thread when he gets time to drop in with any potential updates.

Kind regards,

Tom
