Project 250 (2005 Dolphin Grey TDI BHC)

Thank you Darren,

I’m positive the wife will be happy when I tell her it’s ready to go, taxed along with her own insurance in the morning.

Im finding it hard to not look for a DD Dashboard and a RNS-E to install though, must resist.

Kind regards,

Tom
Don’t do it!
You’ll have me following if you do!
One all singing and dancing, 2nd one it’s original brother/sister!

A great little thread this Tom and shows just what is possible with a little bit of love, care and attention. A phoenix rising from the flames (not literally of course ?).

Hats off to you Sir for a job well done.
Evening Darren,

I missed your post earlier sorry. Thank you for your kind words. This really has become a great little car. I’ve just been out in it for it’s final road test, I can report that all is good apart from the small list of jobs already mentioned.

I’m glad it’s been rescued as I’m sure it would have risked being broken for parts should it have got in the wrong hands.

Kind regards,

Tom

I think you’re right Darren.

I will subdue the temptation by spending the money on getting the headlamp washer bumper and Votex painted for Project OEM.

Kind regards,

Tom
It’s hard I know, I’m tempted on my new addition also, but I like the idea that the car owes you so little, it can still retain its ‘250’ moniker!

what about this though ......could you be tempted
Very tempting Nathan,

That is a rather good price if it’s in good condition and removed ‘nicely’.

I think Erling has the right idea though and save the money for some Azure Blue paint for the exterior transformation of Project OEM.

Still very tempting though.

Kind regards,

Tom

I think we all know that the £70 for the dash is very much the thin end of the wedge!!!

As I always say, I can resist anything except temptation. ?

It’s cheap, but not if your paying someone to do a dash swap for you! ?
Darren it’s free,

Do it yourself. I’ll show you how once were allowed out to mingle. Buy it I want and I’ll install it for you.

It’ll be some 4 hours but happy to assist sir.

If it’s still available in the morning I will probably buy it myself!

Kind regards,

Tom

Nah, I have got big expense with 2 lots of cam belt and water pump to do, plus 2 lots of cast arms!
After that lot that will be me until next year, too much cost in one go, despite still having a list of little things Id like on both cars!

Morning all,

Though I’d give you some more details on this brilliant little SE.

At the time of purchase, Nick informed me that the gearbox selector tower had recently been changed. This is quite evident as the gear change is silky smooth, best I have ever felt in an A2. The oil cooler has also been changed which can be seen by the new shiny item when the bonnet is removed. Its got a very good history with it and testament to the way it runs, the engine purrs lovely and responds perfectly to the request for acceleration. It actually is very quiet for a TDI, might be due to it still having all the sound deadening items in place (must get an under tray for OEM).

It’ll be taken it’s full family maiden journey shortly.

I am just amazed what can be purchased for less than the cost of a used Bose kit!

There will be a few bits I still require but it’s certainly ready for the road right now.

Kind regards,

Tom

What did Mrs 2work think of it?
Morning Steve,

Mrs 2Work is very happy with it thank you. She was never bothered about what I had done to the last 2 project commuter A2s so this standard SE (with a little bit of Sport) suits her perfectly.

Hopefully this will keep her out of OEM so I can fit the Votex knowing it shouldn’t have any high kerb altercations.

Boys also like it but a little disappointed it doesn’t have the sliding roof like in Daddies work car, they request it to be open even when it’s raining!

Smiles all round at 2 work Towers today.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

A quick update on another ‘hand me downs’ from OEM.

You’ll see from the OEM thread that I recently fitted the the 6 Speed Gear Knob Emblem from an A6 C6, thank you Tom @timmus for the recommendation from when you done the same conversation.

This is the Sport Gear Knob I was donated by Ian @Proghound, it is such an improvement over the plastic SE it had fitted.

You’ll see some of the chrome has worn away from R - anticlockwise to 4, classic wedding ring wear:

2 minutes later, OEMs 5 Speed Emblem was fitted and now looks like this:

I’ll address the black leather wear on it in time but for now it’s looking great. I know the wife won’t even notice, even if I tell her.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

Not much to report from Project 250 recently as it’s running brilliantly and still cannot believe my luck on acquiring this.

You may have seen that I have just upgraded to hard touch B Pillar Buttons on Project OEM, from the same donor vehicle I got a part to sort this issue out:

This working item has nie been replaced with this:
A24FAC7D-89E6-4F22-9E8A-29BAFA75DD52.jpeg

I completely stripped it down to remove every little bit of fluff and grime. It’s now immaculate on the inside.

My wife didn’t even notice or care, I think she was more annoyed that I was wasting time doing something unnecessary.

The ashtray has also been replaced as it wouldn’t close. It’s something I was going to investigate to see why it wouldn’t close but a cheap replacement part is just so much easier.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

It’s been a while since this thread has been updated. I’ll tend to that this coming week as a few things have been improved recently.

For now though, I have just sent James @jp.oog this rather worn headlight switch:

This fascia will be refurbished with the additional ‘Auto’ icon added which will save attacking it with the Dremel and inserting the new icon ring that comes with the auto headlight switch.

Very excited about the way this will turn out.

Kind regards,

Tom
