Project A2 DUNE

Done by hand or a grinder first? Nicks on the rim hardest to do I take it? Still want to see them against the car with the susoension raised to intended running height.

An adapter in a drill. Can't remove nicks, but they are pretty good anyway, Louis did a good deal with me.

@Jellybean That is why I asked I know these new ceramic coatings are very good but not sure which route on alloys. Lacquer, polish or ceramic coating.

Well the project is really starting to take shape now thanks to the arrival of the roof bars from @Al2coholic

The wheels still need polishing and the front skid plate needs trimming down but so far so good and I think it is achieving the image I wanted.

Next job is to find some longer rear springs.

I think a votex rear spoiler would look good in the anthracite, and maybe a Audi bike carrier running along the roof bars. Will need to wait until the ride height is higher for that though or it will be too top heavy.

Your not having my spoiler Steve ?

Have you thought about the adjusters from a coil over kit to raise the rear...............not too sure if it could be done this way but possibly worth looking into...........you would retain the same ride quality but it would ride that little bit higher and allow some adjustment.
The other thing you may need to look at is the shock absorber travel, but I'm sure you're not going to be going that high....lol

That's actually a very good call and not something i had thought of. This would obviously only work on the rear, but as long as the cup for the coilover is the same diameter as the standard spring then it could be done. I'm only looking for a 30mm raise on the rear, I'm already happy with the front height.

I was looking forward to seeing roof rails rather than bars. Although the prospect of drilling through the roof (after taking out the headlining) would have been daunting, I think something along the lines of the Rover Streetwise rails would have kept the project much closer to the Allroad look.

I agree completely, but everything so far is reversible. I wasn't man enough to drill 4 holes in the roof.

It might be possible to fix suitable rails using holes drilled in the line of the 'filler strip' where the roof and sides join up. If that was an option, you could put the car back to standard spec by using replacement strips, suitably painted of course, if you (or the eventual buyer) didn't like the project.

I'd personally be concerned about reaction between the fixings and the aluminium roof if it was drilled on the seam. It would have to be a carefully planned job. Having ran my car without one of the strips for a while when it was being repainted its too narrow to accept roof rails. It would take quite a bit of fettling methinks. Good look I agree but I wouldn't take it on.

Wonder if it's been done by any of our Euro buddies. ??

I would be concerned about structural integrity drilling there. A better compromise may be to use the existing roof rail fittings and make up ally or chrome bars that fit to them running fore and aft curving down towards the roof.

Yesterday I took delivery of the Castle Red TDI from my good friend @Jellybean .

We came to a deal with Bob going home with the Jaipur 1.4 and me now owning his Castle Red TDI as my daily driver.

Although the little Jaipur was a lovely looking car, I'm very pleased with my end of the deal. The castle red is a credit to Bob and is not only in great condition but drives beautifully as well.

The project won't be anywhere near the scale of Frankie that it will be replacing, but should be a very unique oem+ A2 by the end of it.

Just one photo at present, but many more will be added as it progresses.
