Project Annie - Making an A2 Sicily Proof

And then there was light .... Behold:

This was not on my to do list, heck I didn't even know my A2 had a glovebox light. Such an easy fix thanks to @depronman for the 3D printed switch actuator and @CreweAudi for supplying the new light. If anyone is going to work in the V68 flap and has a broken light in the glovebox, you might as well fix the latter at the same time.

That's all for this Saturday!

Have a lovely weekend :)
oddly satisfying to have things working as they should

Tried to do some hypermiling on my trip to Manchester last week. Filled up the tank (regular way, so about 36 liters went in having just shown the fuel low warning). Almost made it back from Manchester to Canterbury without the tank having gone into reserve, I believe I was just over 3 miles short. I managed 864km or 537m with 36 liters of diesel, so that would be about 4.1 - 4.2 l/100km or about 68mpg. My colour DIS was more conservative and put fuel consumption at 4.5l (63mpg). Not bad I would say considering the time of year...

It has been quite a while since I did an update on my A2. Some additions and repairs have been made, an overview:

- Driver's door has also gotten an @depronman door check strap. The passenger door already had one, but the driver's door, being jealous. decided that it would start to play up as well so that it would get the upgrade
- Finally got around to fitting the @depronman wiper arm, just like the door check strap an upgrade I can only recommend
- I visited @Proghound in June where @timmus fitted an original MFSW which works as a charm. He also updated the colour DIS, sorted out a small issue with the driver's mirror (loose connection), and finally gave me confirmation that my lumbar motor was broken. As a result of a broken rear seat (or better a seat that just wouldn't come out anymore, except in pieces) my sports seats have been swapped with SE ones in much better condition. So far, I haven't missed the sport seats, but I am off on a longer journey on Wednesday, so the jury is out on that one :)
- Installed a VW Beetle sunglass holder
- Finally did the headliner, an improvement in a way but with more skill and patience I think I could have done a better job.
- Installed a new concert radio (or better, swapped the fascia) as a line of pixels had died on the original unit.

Do the brass check straps need oiling?

Nice update, sounds like it’s settled into use and you’re getting round to sorting all the niggles now rather than major items Thomas?

Car went in for a full service, with nothing special that needed doing. A small weep from the power steering fluid and corrosion, but they found the car in good nick for its age and mileage (just did over 250.000km).

MOT day today, with a bit of fear. My car wouldn't be my car if it didn't do something unusual on the way to the MOT centre. When I stepped on the brakes, the car gave me the warning beep - but nothing appeared on the instrument cluster or on my colour DIS. Had it on five / six occasions, but then stopped. Arrived at the centre I quickly checked the diagnostics functions on the colour DIS but nothing came back. Left the car there, and on my walk back home I started thinking that it could be a brake light - yet those failing should trigger a warning on the colour DIS... I did not check the brake lights before I left the car and now I am dreading that it might be the third brake light which has finally gone...

Any thoughts?

Fingers crossed :)

Another year, another MOT :)

Two advisories: corroded rear coil springs and sticky rear hand brake cable

Oh yes, and the mechanic was complaining that he couldn't get the mileage back to miles :) Gov system thought I had covered over 100.000 miles last year.

Santa Claus was a bit late this year, but a little project for my continental LHD headlights (which will be fitted permanently on the car as I will be commuting to and from Belgium).

First of all, a Happy New Year to all of you!

The LED's have been installed in the headlights, now I just need to wait a few more weeks before the LHD headlight units go onto the car :(

I will report back once I have been able to use them on the continent. All in all, very easy to install.

I sure do hope that these will be made road legal at some point in the future, as I always found the output of the headlights one of the flaws of the A2 (even with 150% increased H7 Halogens that do not last long...)
