Project Annie - Making an A2 Sicily Proof

I find the +200 bulbs to be adequate, I understand you can now buy +220.

LEDs would be better though.

This week, my car and myself paid a visit to Marcus and Rob at WOM Automotive for the MYP conversion with new starter motor, flywheel and clutch. Car went in on Monday and I pick it up on Thursday. Great services and very good conversations with both Marcus and Rob. I had quite the test ahead of me, going from Uttoxeter to Wakefield to meer @Howey to pick up a set of pepperpots and then all the way back to Canterbury.

What can I say, such an improvement on the old gearbox. No more struggling to get into third gear and especially such a quite ride at speeds between 60-70mph. The engine is clearly under much less stress at these speeds. In fact, I am now getting annoyed at the wind noise coming from my OSS (I am wondering - since it is not working - if I could fit some material on the inside to reduce it). I even am under the impression that fuel economy is slightly better as well. It is quite strange to get used to the shorter throw of the MYP gearbox and for some reason my brain always wants to shift 5th - neutral - 6th rather than straight into 6th. I have to confess, I have only driven one other six-speed car (my inlaws old Mercedes A200 CDI).

So, that means that from the original list I had to improve my car when I joined the forum just over two years ago, I am down to the last item, i.e. fix the OSS.

Once again, thank you to Marcus and Rob at WOM and all you lovely people for the advice on the 6-speed conversion!

A visit to @Kleynie beckons

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know the correct ratios for the MYP in order to change them in the settings of my colour DIS?

You can find a copy of @Robin_Cox spread sheet here post #194 on page 10

Evening Thomas,

I’ve just stepped outside for you Sir as I have this very setup in Project OEM:

This is the information that was entered when first installed.

Thank you for such a request that see me jump into the drivers seat of my old commuter, which I’ve not driven for some weeks now.

Kind regards,

Tom

Drove to Belgium yesterday evening with Project Sicily. Two people and the car in van mode with lots of stuff. No traffic between Calais and our place in Belgium, stuck to limit where legally required (70 and 90 km/h), 105km/h on the French and Belgian motorways. Managed 4.1l/100km, which is almost 69mpg. So with just me, no luggage, the pepperpots in the near future, and better atmospheric conditions, a sub 4l/100km or >70mpg should be within reach. New MYP box making quite a difference there.

Much quieter I bet as well?

Long time since I have posted on here, but all is still good in A2 land :) Just did a journey of about two hours yesterday, mostly motorways, and averaged an incredible 3.8l/100km which is roughly 74mpg. I beat my own previous record which I set just last week which was 3.9l/100km on a similar journey. The car just doesn't stop to amaze me :)

The only issue in these last couple of months has been an issue with the V107 flap. Aircon does not work anymore as it is constantly sending out cold and warm air. It's not the tropical mode issue (caused by a stuck V68 flap) which I resolved last year. Not sure whether to replace the V107 or try to get it working again...

Nice going Thomas. What cruising speed are you doing to get those economy figures - and are you still in Canterbury or are you in Sicily now?

I am getting these figures at +/- 100 to 105 km/h, I have noticed that the warmer temperatures are having an impact. I got the gearbox fitted back in January so I haven't had any chance to drive it at higher temperatures.

I am currently living in Canterbury and Belgium, about 50/50 :) Haven't had the chance to take the A2 to Sicily.

The car is getting even more frugal :) - please bear in mind that I had to queue at the port of Dunkirk (hence the low average speed), at one point I was at 3.6l/100km

That's about 74mpg and just a little better than what I can coax out of mine at 65-70mph cruising speeds.

Not to shabby at all for a TDI90 Thomas.

I once was within reach of the mythical 1000km out of the 42l tank, but I chickened out as I was driving in an area where I was unfamiliar with the petrol stations... The fuel warning light only came on after having done over 900km.

Unfortunately, the time has come when I have to make a decision about my A2 with my head rather than my heart. I am permanently moving to Belgium from the 1st of September. I have always had the intention to take my lovely A2 with me and import the car into Belgium. All the paperwork is sorted, and the necessary conversions have been made (rear foglights, LHD headlights, dash in KM/H - the last one technically not necessary but a nice touch :) ). The main issue is that I will only be able to enjoy the car for two more years, as from 01/01/2026 the whole of Wallonia will have a LEZ zone in which all EURO 4 and lower diesels will be banned. The only exception are oldtimers that do less than 4.000km per year, but my beloved A2 won't meet the minimal age requirements until 2034 - that's a long time for a car to be stored in a garage. Even if I import the car and enjoy it for another 2 years, it will be a pain to sell it again. Being a RHD I likely won't find any takers on the continent, and if I were to sell it to a UK buyer, they would have to import it again... So the question is, do I sell it - with pain in my heart - while still in the UK, or do I enjoy the car for 2 years with the risk of having to sell it for peanuts before 2026...
