Project Bo - blue colour storm

damadgeruk

A2OC Donor
Mrs Incredible authorised, nay, requested a blue A2. Apparently the two Cobalt A2s she already owns weren't enough. Soon enough one appeared and we collected her yesterday. Bo is a 2004 TDI SE Colour Storm with some service history though had been neglected (in recent years at least).
I've spent much of the remaining weekend cleaning and polishing though there's a lot still to be done.

After, Rug Doctor portable worked well.

Farcela G3 restored the dull roof.

TT 16s fitted.
Still to do... Find a black false floor, add a second key, new front discs and hoses, front wishbones, new suspension all round, fit engine undertray, cut and polish headlights. Loads more to bring her back to an acceptable standard though already looking much better.

Is that the same Rug Doctor you can hire from the supermarkets or a different version?
It's a portable spot cleaner, little more than a wet vac that can spray water/solution. I bought this refurb, currently £80 here...

New discs fitted today, somewhat irrelevant though I'm not convinced the discs should have passed (3 weeks ago). I'm currently completing the orders for suspension refit components, Bilstein B4 dampers and Eibach E7910-140 lowering springs along with new rubbers, stops, top bearings and bolts.

New thermostat fitted as temp rarely hit 90°C. Surprisingly easy as I'd read many tales of woe and gained good insight as to what was in store and what tools were useful. I only used a 10mm flex head ratchet spanner which was the right size for my Allen socket. Bottom bolt is a bit neat for access though long fingers help.
Gave the engine bay a clean while there so I know what leaks are current. Tandem pump has a thick layer of crud suggesting it's going to need attention.

EGR coming out soon for cleaning and valve removal.

Much cleaner, missing top cover(and bottom tray).

Tandem pump mostly clean.

ECP Circoli 209440040 thermostat fitted, <£5 delivered.

Second key programming done, cost £29 for banana 220K fob, £10 for new blade(cut to photo) and £3 for new transponder.

Next on the list is hard wiring the dash cam into the courtesy light as it works well on Buzz, power cut several minutes after parking.

VAG commander (1.4)for SKC retrieval and VCDS lite(registered - £75). I use a cheap (old-2007) cable with FTDI chip for both. I believe some cheap eBay cables are suitable, maybe someone who has bought recently can link.

I have full vagcom and official cable. However no matter what cable I use I can never get vag commander to work!

I might go down the same road as you, hence the interest. I remember several posts from members commenting on the need to adjust COM port and baud rate, have you tried this?

Took the door card off this evening to diagnose the non functioning rocker switch.

Discovered it wasn't plugged in though it's displaying some odd behaviour so it'll be off again to investigate once I have more time. Also recoded the CCU with auto lock and lock confirmation chirp.

Rear Eibach E7910-140 lowering springs fitted (no pics as my dampers are on back order from spring-loaded.co.uk (B4's). Also fitted left hand bilstein B4 with new top mount (SKF 35115), bump stop and gaiter along with the new spring. Not my favourite job, removing and replacing the strut in the hub clamp took too long though I've the other side to do (along with two more on my car). That will help me improve. On the plus side, I managed to get the abs wiring clamp back on,every cloud... ?

I'll report on ride and height once I've done the other side.

Other side(rhs) was much faster (2h45m), practice makes perfect. Front ride height is disappointingly high, hoping it settles. Ride is good, not as soft as our yellow storm on Monroe though it's early and I've yet to receive the rear B4's.

This is looking lovely, excellent work so far :)

Are we likely to see it at a social? We need a blue Storm
