Hi everyone as you can see I’ve deleted Boris off the marketplace as I’ve decided to keep him once and for all :) if I would of sold him I would of cried for 3 weeks anyway as I love him :)??

This is what’s going to happen in the next 12 months (HOPEFULLY)

I’m planing on taking the 1.6 FSI engine out and putting in a 1.8T engine in (I know I sound crazy) :p?

I have a question for everyone. What 1.8T engine would fit in Boris? MK1 TT ??

Also one last question what garage would be able to do this sort of work ? Would WOM automotive be able to do the engine swap ?

If so that would be great as WOM automotive are the best with A2’s :)

I’ll make a couple of phone calls on Monday to get this show on the road

This will mostly take up to 8 months to get completed (HOPEFULLY) ?

If you all would rather me keep the 1.6 FSI engine in just say ?

Thanks ?

just check with insurance Co before you embark on this, they do not like modification and changing engines is likely the worst.
If I'm remembering correctly you are very young and and getting insurance will be expensive anyway, add to this something that insurance Co frown on and you could easily end up with a car that you love but cannot afford to own and use

1.8t motors come in various levels of tune starting at 150bhp and going up through175/180 to 225bhp as off the shelf factory fitted engines, so depending on what sort of power you want finding an engine shouldn't be too much trouble.......
You'll need to also source a gearbox with ratios to suit wheel and tyre size your planning to run.......
Everything is possible the only problem I forsee could be cost.............. how much are you prepared to spend especially as you will be paying someone else to carry out the work.

Hi buddy yes I’ve only just turned 16 :) can’t wait one year to go until I can drive on the road ?

Insurance doesn’t matter for this one as I will not be driving this when I first pass my test. I will be driving Doris or maybe I’ll get a 3rd A2 what isn’t a show queen just in case I have a bump in a car park etc (HOPE NOT) If I ever bumped Doris or Boris I’d cry :)? so I’d get a 3rd A2 like I say what isn’t a show queen and if it does get bumped by someone etc I’m not going to cry:)

Hi I would be looking at spending £1500 to £2000 maximum buddy :)

Thanks ?

Hi would be looking at spending £1500 to £2000 top line :)

Sorry but if you're going to be paying someone else to do the work I feel your budget is going to be too little......... I know you've probably seen engines advertised cheaply but to avoid problems later on any good garage would want to inspect the engine before fitting........that obviously could open a can of worms, the same goes for the gearbox.........the garage may fit the engine and box without inspecting them first but don't expect any warranty from them if anything goes wrong............
There will also be the need to upgrade the drive train and the brakes to suit the new power unit ..............then it will need an engineers report before most insurance companies will accept such radial mods to an A2.
Have a word with the chaps on the Lupo/Polo forums about insurance and what's involved with fitting as the engine bays are about the same size.
Sorry to sound a little negative about your plans but I would hate to see you start it and then come to a depressing halt when it becomes more and more costly .

Thanks for your advice buddy I really appreciate it :)

I forgot about upgrading the drivetrain ? (silly me)

What I’ll have to do everyone is see what figures pop up on Monday and if it’s in my budget I’ll go ahead if not unfortunately I’ll have to keep the stock engine

Thanks everyone for your advice so far it’s greatly appreciated

I’ll keep you all updated :)

The money initially you are looking at spending to shoe horn the engine in will buy a nice TT. You could even get a quatro.

I’ve just done some figures for engine/gearbox

Then fitting engine etc

New drive train

New brakes etc

It’s going to go over my budget especially when I have labour on top

Oh well it looks like I’ll be keeping the standard engine :)

We all can dream I guess ??

I’ve had a think over the past couple of days. I can’t do a engine swap as that’s going to be stupid amounts of money what I don’t have (I’m only 16?)

I’ve had another plan instead of Boris just being a normal A2 sport I had a idea and thought let’s make him a unique A2 and get him wrapped in chrome :)

Does anyone know of any good wrap specialist in Leicestershire?

Wraps only cost 900ish pounds right ??

If Boris sells before the 20th of June obviously this will not happen but if he doesn’t sell and I keep him (what I want to do anyway) I am thinking of getting him wrapped :)

After all if I do go ahead I think it will be a awesome looking A2. When do you ever seen a chrome A2 running around ?

The only problem with chrome is if I go Tesco or in town I will have a lot of women looking at the chrome wrap on him to see if there makeup is still ok and there hair ?

Yes, men never look themselves in the mirror, right?

Chrome look on a show car looks great, but ANY mark will be a nightmare. As I suggested in another thread, I think a brushed aluminium finish would look great, after all that is what it is made from. Something like the brushed stainless steel finish on the Delorean. Here is a sample from 3M

Think with that wrap you could hide small imperfections and the car looks like it is going 100mph standing still.

I have a mate who does wrapping and tinting on cars. Before I had my A2 I asked him how much would cost to wrap an A2.
It all depends the quality of the vinyl you want to put on your car. And of course on the colour. He quoted me around 3 grand for my chosen colour.

And bare in mind once you scratched your wrapped car I beleive it's more difficult to repair it than a painted car. Maybe I wrong.

I've never understood the desire to wrap.a car. It's not permanent. I know a very good paintshop who will do a full respray to a good standard for £1000.

I had our CLK done by Bristol Blue Customs, nice job but nothing like real paint for durability, was always worried about bird poo sap, careful how you wash it, etc etc.
