Project Bosco

A2OC Donor
Hi all,

I would like to share my "project" I'm sure I'll get l ots of help since I already red some very usefull info about A2-s.
So I'm sure if I keep my car well maintained it will be a long partner with my everyday life.

Bosco is 2005 1.4 SE model with currently 97621 miles.

I bought him with 93551 miles on the clock.

He got no extras atm but got many things in mind.

But before I PIMP my ride I would replace some stuff on him.

He is close to 100k and the MOT 2 weeks away.

Would it be a smart idea to change all the "major service" part on him or should I wait until I hit 100k miles?

And if I do so what exactly should I get other than water pump, cam belt, oil, oil filter, all around brakes?

And I also looking for some advice where should I take the car?

I have a garage but they are a bit pricey and they not even Audi specialists..

I'm living in Leeds. Does anyone know a good garage who knows well A2?

Thanks for any advice!

George

There’s no logical reason to wait until 100k to do servicing work, other than it’s a nice round number to work from.

Oil and filter service, can belt and water pump, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filter, spark plugs and at almost 100k and the age it wouldn’t do any harm to flush the brake fluid through.

Having the throttle body cleaned can help a lot with better running and throttle response on the 1.4 but there’s the old thing of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, which sometimes holds true.

What plans do you have for it?

In terms of servicing it would be a bit of a drive for you but WOM automotive know the A2 inside and out and are based in Stoke.

Thanks for the answer! I will give them a call this week.

The brake fluid was flushed around March when I had it for a month. The garage changed the two cylinders and one shoe. They also changed the brake fluid all these cost me £240.

I called the dealer but he didn't even care about it. Apparently the 3 months warranty for the car (only) included the gearbox and the engine however I been told everything included in the warranty when I bought the car.

The car is definitely a keeper so my plans are:

- A1 MFSW (Birchall have one)
- Fog light
- Colour MFA (would like to ask Tom for these job but I need to spare some money)

- White dial
- Better audio (I'm not dying for Bose)
- New tyres but I'm staying with 15" wheels
- RNSE
- Tow bar
- Roof racks
- and some bits

I also need to buy a good polisher the car has some scratches.

The windshield was changed recently due a stone chip what a gardener caused. Thankfully they took the blame so it was free.

Sorry fore the late update..

Time for the first mot.

I was certain it will pass without doing the major service on him. So instead of going straight to the WOM guys I went doing my MOT.

Unfortunately the result are the following:

First MOT test on Bosco under my ownership:

I said no problem what needs to be done will be done. I'm only upset because it will appear in the history.

I had 2 days off one for MOT (Thursday) one for WOM (Friday) service.

So Friday morning with well rotten wishbone with hole in the middle I'm on the road for the 100 miles away WOM garage.

The MOT tester or the garage says nothing that the car is not road worthy for my 100 mile trip or it could be dangerous. At that time I have not checked it I know I should be drove my car if it had the problem with the wishbone and as far I know once it's failed the mot and it's not dangerous I can still drive it until the mot expires.
So I went for my 9:00 AM appointment with Rob & Marcus.

The tings has been done are the following:

Timing belt Kit & Water Pump OEM
Oil change / OEM Filter
Air Filter OEM
Pollen Filter OEM
Fuel Filter OEM
Spark Plugs OEM
Meyle O/S Cast Wishbone Supply & Fit

They called me before the wishbone has been changed as it was in terrible condition. So I couldn't risk the way back home with that wishbone.

I called my local garage as the parts was ordered and I have to cancelled them as Marcus was changing the wishbone. Only the tyres and the hose replacemebt was done by my local garage.

Went home with no problem at all with the newly fitted everything!

Once again thanks for the guys at WOM! Superb job done in no time!

I bet my local garage was not happy with the parts cancellation as my Monday re MOT test was almost a day long. I couldn't go for work so I lost money too. They said the computer was done... Ok no problem I will never use them again.

I had to change 1 tyre on Bosco but I went for 4 matching budget tyres and the hose pipe with them before re MOT.

The Re MOT result:

They came up with one little extra fault the hose this time.

They also mentioned the cast wishbone.. What a joke in my opinion..

So new appointment with WOM guys for some extra work on Bosco..

This time the following works has been done:

Cast wishbone N/S Supply & Fit
Front Brake discs & Pads OEM
Rear Brake Shoe Kit OEM
Door Check Strap O/S Front OEM
HeliCoil Thread Repair (brake caliper n/s)

Thank you Rob & Marcus again!

So basically now I should have a very well running car now as I just spend nearly £1800 for maintain the car (I know if I do the job myself would be cheaper but I know nothing about cars I don't have the proper tools and place for it..) almost as much as I spent for my car (I got it for £2000).

Of course battery gone flat so I changed it around December.

Towbar, double din cage, full DIS with colour MFA, front fog lights waiting for retrofit! I will give a shout soon!

Thanks for viewing.

Hi

I live in Leeds too, I used IVC Leeds who are a good VAG specialist.

I used them to MOT, service and change the rear discs and pads in Dec19.

There is also German Autocare however I’ve not used these as yet.

Some recommended IVC on the club so hence going with that one as they had a fair few A2’s through their workshop. Indeed the chap I dealt with had load of questions for me about it (might just have been sales patter) so gave me a bit of confidence as he did impart some of his knowledge.

Thank you. Will give a try when needed. Hopefully the next few years will be just as good as it was new.
