Project Buzz - Yellow Colour Storm

Much searching came to fruition on 27 March when our latest A2 came home. It popped up for sale 60 miles away and was quickly purchased. Now named Buzz by its future driver (daughter is 14) it had one owner from new and has been looked after with FSH, recent dampers all round and new front discs. Buzz appears to have taken a hit at some point as both bumpers have issues (laquer peel on rear and both have been painted), under tray is also missing.
Various upgrades due though needs detailed and fettled first...

Buzz is going to be used by the Mrs until Erin is ready to drive so wheels changed as the 17s have a net set of Toyo Proxies vs mix and match on the SE 16s.
50537

Much as I like the 16s the 9 spokes do a much better job of filling the arches. Running on 205/45R17 though will be swapped for 15 or 16" for towing.

Buzz will be attending the Scottish social next month. He's just returned from Glencoe having towed our folding camper. From the looks of it, this was the first time the towbar has been used.

Lots of posts as I catch up with what's been happening to Buzz(Erin was surprised and impressed with @stevieA2 spotting Buzz in Glencoe). Having found a particularly nasty pothole near Rannoch Moor, Buzz threw us the ABS, EPC and red exclamation soon after. Bluetooth OBD with Torque Pro failed to diagnose though VCDS showed G45 front right speed sensor. Since the sensor had no intention of leaving its home of 16 years I checked the wiring, continuity was good, new Febi 23816 due tomorrow from Amazon (£25.20).
Also started tidying up the brakes.

Having experienced the issues of rear discs and calipers suffering through lack of use the drums are staying though looking much better.

No photos today though ABS sensor swapped, fault cleared and tested. As expected, old one had to be drilled out once the external section was broken off. Started rust removal and kurust treatment of the hub and caliper.
Time reduced as my 05 TDI NS wishbone had reached a point of concern. Removal from the rear bush was trying (done on the drive with the console in place) though the other side will be faster.

Definitely, silver languishing slightly, blue ones suffering from lacking time, particularly in FSI form. How are the camper preparations?

Camper was in use a week ago. It went to -5 overnight! Heater was very welcome.

Various bits still in progress but a fairly hefty setback when I discovered the roof vent has been leaking inside the ceiling and wall spaces for at least a few years. Replaced now but it was a mission! 30 year old, soggy, mouldy fibreglass behind semi-rotted plywood is on my ‘avoid’ list.

Fitted the free automatic light switch (Aliexpress seller surprisingly refunded following a very slow despatch). Not overly happy with the uneven gap though I'm sure I'll get over it. :)

Also fitted the pressed aluminium front plate (£12.49 for the pair from 720 plates on Amazon), rear fitted before towing the camper to Glencoe.

@damadgeruk nice find you got yourself there, like what you’re doing to it to bring it back up to a nice example once again,
Nice to see where another of the five elusive Tdi yellow C Storms lives,
Keep up the good work ?
Cheers Jeff

Buzz continues to absorb time(through choice) mostly rust removal and preventative maintenance. Treated to clay bar and polish at the weekend and a 220K banana key thanks to @Birchall excellent instructions.

'Old' key is in better condition, I don't think it's been used.
Do you remember the instructions for this? I used to have one of these from Birchall but my little one lost it months ago

Everything I needed was here...
I have VAG commander for SKC retrieval and VCDS lite(registered today - £75). 220K fob was £27 eBay, transponder - £3.85 eBay item 262830554823 and new(short) blade, cut to photo - £10 eBay item 113680764200.
I have other keys to program as I'm planning two DIS swaps which helps spread the cost. Wife was suitably unimpressed with her new key, she had a key already. 😀

Last couple of days 'free' time have been treating Buzz to a little bit of dis...

Since added some fuel though yet to swap the control stalk. The short drive to the petrol station saw the temperature reduce to a more sensible 24°C. Hopefully see some more of this weather for the Scottish social, not long now.

Waiting on rear suspension upgrade components though the Symphony II+ arrived sooner than expected. Being tight I've swapped the wiring without an adaptor as the II+ wash helpfully supplied with quad-lock and fakra connectors with 6" of cable. Also fitted aux in which is native on the II+.
MP3 CD burned and playing as expected. Only issue I've still to research is the unit won't switch off when ignition off or key removed.
