Evening all,

Managed to find some time last night to complete some looms I had considered over the festive period but was lacking some specific connectors. These are now done and was about to add full functionality to the rather rare seats earlier…

But got side tracked:

17938C4E-6C90-424D-868E-04CADEA81987.jpeg

I really like the addition of the auto dimming mirror and the FBMFSW, to me just looks right, feels right and puts a smile on my face after commuting some 1500 miles with the skinny SE steering wheel.

The cabin really is starting to come along now. Still yet to obtain a Soul Double DIN Dashboard but I know one will present itself soon enough. This will of course see a full suite of Audi A3 Infotainment items installed in a couple of hours. I’ve even got a spare Arduino to inject the OPS display onto the RNS-E PU when reverse is selected. Of course to achieve this will involve offering the 23mm hole cutter to the rear bumper.

That’s all for now but clearly more to follow over the coming weeks to get this beautiful commuter to that of a similar specification to Project OEM.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

Maybe a little late now the cold snap has ceased but today see the addition of a complete Winter Pack.

Both mirrors were swapped over for the factory heated variety:

To achieve full Winter Pack status it of course required heated jets, these were recently obtained from Steve @A2Steve (thank you) which are of the later style. Therefor I have to quickly add the later style plenum cover. First off was to remove the earlier style:

79AF7FD1-9FD3-48B7-BD2C-20743EDB32B9.jpeg

Then add the aforementioned later style plenum cover and the heated jets:

DF96FA84-6524-4C2C-AD49-58510281CE20.jpeg

With the wiper arm removed, it presented a perfect opportunity to fit the beautifully refurbished later style wiper arm that arrived this morning (thank you Paul @depronman):

The loom for the heated jets was made up over the festive period and only today passed through the bulkhead to the passengers A pillar. I can confirm that when the ignition is switched on that the jets now receive 12v, bring on the April cold snap!

Not a bad outcome for a couple of hours tinkering.

Now time to wash away the grime collected during this weeks commute.

Kind regards,

Tom

Is that a jaipur header tank I see, too much 😅. Looks like mine, I have to change mine I hate it when they look old.
Only jesting of course. That wiper, damn nice 👌 coming along really well.
Evening Edd,

Yes agree a G13 stained coolant reservoir doesn’t look great. I’ll possibly swap it when I’ve finished tinkering in other areas to make it look more presentable.

To be honest l’ve not had the bonnet off that much so far but will get to an engine detail at some point in the warmer months.

Yes the refreshed wiper arm looks great and the improved directional control of the later style jets is so much better than the earlier type. Very happy with the result.

Hopefully get some more items swapped over when time permits.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello all,

After some 2500 miles of commuting I’ve still yet to swap the SE wheels for their economical cousins. Managed to find a spare hour this morning to rectify this:

Also knowing how filthy this stunning A2 was yesterday I thought I’d start to layer up the polish and wax. Starting to look splendid:

It’s surprising how the iPhone camera makes the coachwork look more of a vibrant red than the orange colour that it appears in person.

All ready for next weeks commute.

Kind regards,

Tom

Beautiful work there Tom looks stunning..👍 looks like there’s room enough for one more 😬

Looks like you are running an A2 dealership the way they are all lined up. I’m guessing a couple of them will be making a move in time?

All credit to you for persevering with trying to keep it clean in this weather.

Evening Paul,

Yes there is room for few more on the driveway but I’ve been sternly informed that I am no not increase car count.

This Jaipur Red commuter is really coming on now. I’ve got a lead on a Soul double DIN dashboard that I should be able to collect towards the end of February which will see the next round of retrofits.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening Steve,

That’s exactly what the other driver here says. Yes I’ll be releasing 1 of them in the coming weeks. Really don’t want to but I have no need for 3 or 4 A2s.

All credit to you for persevering with trying to keep it clean in this weather.

Yes it’s a wasted effort I know. Soon as I join the A46 in the morning it will be filthy again. I like to keep it as nice looking as possibly when time permits though.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

An early finish today so excitedly wanted to the fit next purchase to this stunning A2.

Remember this picture being added a few posts back:

Then subsequently ordered one of these (which is currently in transit):

Well… I now have one of these fitted (thank you Edd @CrispyEdd):

Not the best of pictures due to the angle of the sunlight entering the vehicle

This is most definitely the push I need to get the seats removed once again and lay the ready to go loom, to get the most out of the lovely rare Black Leather SE Seats which are now fitted. A weekend job though.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello all,

Had a spare hour or 2 this morning to remove another weeks grime from this beautiful A2.

As the car is now to be stationary until Monday morning I considered this plenty of time for a small amount of 1mm 3M VHB tape to fully adhere to the paint work:

Whilst there I remembered I owe you pictures of the ultra clear headlamps that had moisture inside when first fitted. I’ve just washed the vehicle and happy to report that they are watertight as suggested:

You can always count on a pigeon to do a pooping run above a freshly polished and waxed bonnet!

Today should see the heated seat loom integrated to add further comfort on the cold mornings we’ve seen this last week.

Have a great weekend all.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello all,

I took something to work this morning for fitting during the lunchtime break. After a little bit more knuckle-rash I managed to quickly get one of these installed:

Here’s the actual item ready to go:

I can now report that I have the indicators blinking 3 times at the touch of the stalk. Such a simple enhancement that’s been missing the last 4000 miles commuting.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,
I have a heated seat loom, ready to go in. What route does it take, and how much, other than the seats, have to be moved/removed please?
Mac.

Afternoon Mac,

Happy to assist if I can; as you have a loom ready to instal you’ll probably understand that it’s a 4 wire operation for the heated seats to correctly function:

Not in pin order
1. Pre-ignition live (permanent)
2. Ignition live (switched)
3. Earth
4. Lights-on feed for the roller switches

Before we go any further I have a few questions first if I may.

1. Is it an aftermarket loom
2. Is it a factory loom removed from the vehicles harness
3. Is it a DIY loom you’ve made up yourself
4. Where are you planning on taking the necessary 12v feeds from (passengers footwell or fuse box )

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi,
The loom is an aftermarket item, but replicates 🤞 the relavent part of the OEM loom.
I have the parts, front panel, rollers, etc, to update my climate unit. So supply will be from there, as in OEM.
I intended to run it down from the climate panel, Along the centre tunnel, then off to each side towards the seats, just wondered if that was correct.
Mac.

We done this a couple of times now, the loom can run down the side of the centre console and under the carpet against the transmission tunnel.

Morning Mac,

Your understanding sound spot on. You’ll need to check that aftermarket loom will reach the fuse box for each of the power feeds and also if the earth wire is long enough to reach the point at the base of the A pillar. Whilst the loom is coining down the tunnel you could take the lights on fews from the ASR button of that particular wire isn’t long enough to reach the headlight switch.

Personal preference here, but I would remove the loom tape to inspect/remove the crimp joins then solder them and insulating with heat shrink followed by re-wrapping in fresh loom tape.

Seems like you’re ready to have a nice warm back and bum in the coming days Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello all,

I’ve recently purchased a couple of items from the Clubs Shop which were dispatched and subsequently delivered extremely quickly. Thank you very much Ian @Proghound.

First up is the anniversary sticker, a very elegant addition to our aluminium friends, still plenty in stock as well:

078E52CC-8F50-4F6E-877F-8A41E4D8CDC2.jpeg

Secondly was a pair of Bespoke Number Plate Surrounds, a must have enhancement for any A2 on my driveway. They really are an awesome and quality addition which is also a brilliant A2OC advertisement:

D9D72698-9B66-4049-AA93-7F311DD2D263.jpeg

Coincidentally these purchases were at the same time of my insurance renewal; so thought it the right time to remove the private plate which I’m not keen on:

76460028-5714-4567-8377-A066CDCC05BA.jpeg

Knowing Project X, Project 732 or Project XJT simply wasn’t fitting enough for such a stunning A2, I had to consider other options…

Then remembered I had this V778 tucked away for a rainy day:

FFDB2570-ADF1-432F-914B-D851C5504A6F.jpeg

After a quick online adjustment of legal matters I can report that Project PDK now legally wears the above private plate, shown below:

04F907A5-9B2B-413D-8A87-CBF6695C4B1D.jpeg

Guess I need to consider a project name change. Google helped out with confirming that the new number plate could certainly be of use:

D1FE1DB2-DE61-4A58-A3E4-8C3E3500958F.jpeg

The words Envy, Jealousy, Enthusiasm and Zeal could well be associated with either this A2 or myself. To that end, I hope you all don’t mind but I’m about to re-christen the thread to Project EUD.

Kind regards,

Tom
