Hello all,

Some of you will see that there is a new addition to the driveway here at 2work Towers, mainly from viewing this sale thread and the today I... thread. For those of you who didn't see the above links, then can I take a few minutes of your time to introduce you to Project PDK (name changed to Project EUD). As per the title, a 2001 Jaipur Red TDI AMF.

This cracking A2 was obtained from Paul @PaulA2 who was quite sad to let this one go. Paul I promise it's landed in the right hands to see it put to use along with adding a few things to make it even more special than it already is. This stunningly coloured example is now going to become my keeper/commuter.

Before I dive into any kind of to do list or share any of my intensions, I think it only right you see the pictures of it that have been shared on the Clubs pages since it found member ownership.

Here it is back when @Audiobull collected it:

I remember these pictures being shared and feeling rather jealous viewing them as it looked amazing. Little did I know it would be on my driveway 16 months later.

This is an earlier generation example with SE specification. From what I'm used to, it certainly feels quite poverty spec, it doesn't even have rear speakers. I'm sure I can adjust this issue over time though.

It does come with a Swing false floor fitted:

Which covers a non standard spare wheel for emergency use:

Deeper within the luggage space is the factory tool kit, nice and clean with no signs of water ingress:

Running out of room for pictures so will start the next post shortly.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello again,

Continuing the introduction, here’s the remaining pictures that I have managed to find which are from the original sale thread created by @Audiobull, the very thread whereby it came into Paul’s possession:

Thats pretty much all the pictures I've been able to locate of this incredibly beautiful A2. You know me by now though, I'll take and add plenty more for you to view as and when I get stuck into this project in an attempt to bring it up to a similar specification of both Project OEM and project 250.

Here’s the first 2 pictures I've taken of it, which was yesterday afternoon after getting the bucket and sponge out to see what was beneath hundreds of miles transiting to 2work Tower on wintery wet roads:

I'm sure you'll agree, its absolutely stunning. It actually looks quite shiny judging by the Project OEM reflection but this keeper is yet to receive any paint protective products with me so far. Cannot wait to get a few layers of wax after a couple of hours with the clay bar.

I'm sure the questions that you want to have answered are one what's my intension with this car and two what is wrong with the way Project OEM gets me to work.

The answer to the first question is this: To ensure my commute (which is up to 15 hours a week) is as comfortable as it currently is within Project OEMs cabin then it must at least match, any less would of course leave me wanting... The answer to the second question is simple: Nothing at all. I absolutely love the way the Azure Blue OEM+ A2 has turned out, it's received pretty much every factory option plus some other bits from the VAG range. It most definitely doesn't need replacing but after seeing Paul's Tango Tank sale thread with no interest after a few hours I just had to jump in. Boy am I glad that I did.

Before I go much further I really must pass on a massive thank you to Paul @PaulA2 for setting up an amazing deal and for also delivering the car whilst in the neighbourhood. Paul you are a true gentleman and I hope our paths cross often Sir.

More information and thoughts to follow in the next thread.

Kind regards,

Tom

Do you have SE leather in OEM or sport seats, intrigued as to the discernable difference in the seats. Personally I have only sat in sports seats to drive.

Evening Ed,

Hope all is well. Project OEM has Leather Sport Seats which I find suits my backside and lumbar region just fine, even more so with them being heated along with sporting electric lumbar support as this can help with any mild aches on longer journeys. Project 250 has Leather SE seats which fortunately feature factory heating and electric lumbar support, these also provide perfect support for my backside and back.

I know many would actually prefer the Sports seats but I must say that when I jump into Project 250s SE interior, I feel more comfortable. maybe thats just due to the amount of time I spend in OEM and my body likes the change. Whats better for me or the next person I guess is down to how they feel sat in the different seats. That said I'll be taking the Twist Leather Heated Sport Seats from OEM and put them into PDK if thats the shortened answer you was seeking.

Kind regards,

Tom

Tom,

When I decided to part ways with Tango Tank the venture was to ensure it ending up with the right curator to ensure such a specimen is pampered accordingly.

I have absolute confidence it’s fine they right place to reach it’s full potential. The long drive to you reminded me why we all get hooked on these cars. It was a bitter sweet moment but absolutely the right decision.

I also thank you for your transparency and willingness to help others within our fine community. It is what forums are about. Without people like your good self a lot of these cars wouldn’t be pampered and updated to ensure they continue to feel at home in amongst much newer cars.

I look forward to your detailed thread, my only worry is it will tempt me back into the fold.

Keep up the good work sir, you are a true gent and feel privileged to have finally met you.

Paul

Morning Paul,

Unfortunately I can only give one thumbs up for your post, it deserves multiple responses in my opinion.

Very glad you feel the Tango Tank is in the right hands, over the duration of this thread I will hopefully demonstrate that you did indeed make the right choice. It will certainly be pampered and sport everything that I can obtain for it, just like I did for Project OEM.

Fingers crossed I'll be taking on more retrofits than I have in the past since sitting down with the wiring diagram for the earlier generation A2s, so much to read and absorb but feel my knowledge is growing. I'm more than happy to help others where I can, as you say its exactly what Forums are for.

Should you feel the need to snap up another A2 just from reading this thread as it's built then that is a wonderful thing, we both know these are great cars and perform their duties to a very satisfactory standard, even against some of the new models out there, or am I just biased.

It really was great to meet you and feel our paths must cross again in the future, even just for a coffee to continue the flowing conversation which was interrupted by time and commitments.

When it stops raining, I'll be outside taking interior pictures to share with the community which can be compared back to once I've altered a few things.

Have a great Christmas.

Kind regards,

Tom

You’re a good man @PaulA2 and this isn’t the first time you’ve put ‘the good of the car’ beyond profit in terms of preserving a vehicle as I know from personal experience with Tonka.

No doubt @2work will do a cracking job for you and once fuel prices hit £2.00 a litre again I don’t doubt you’ll see your way back to the light and into saving another of our aluminium friends.

Happy Christmas to you and yours 🎅

I read the title as you are trying to put a PDK gearbox into an A2! Just my Porsche bias I guess.

Looks great, good luck with it.

Afternoon Ian,

Haha, now that would be a fine thing wouldn’t it. I did have concerns about the project name because of the Porsche gearbox but sure it’ll work for as the thread is built. I was going to put an A2 private plate on it which would have changed the name but thought better if it as it’s already sporting one. I’ll keep the A2 plate I have here for another rainy day.

The weather here is atrocious right now, if it ever stops raining, I’ll continue with the introductory pictures. I also have a few items that are ready to fit which I’ll share soon enough.

Kind regards,

Tom

A PDK in an A2 would certainly be something special. I doubt there is room.

I hope the weather is kind for you in the coming days.

Afternoon all,

Slight gap in the clouds so I've just nipped outside to grab some interior shots.

As it’s an earlier generation A2 is comes with Hard Touch items which are still in place:

The mileage is a modest 128k which will increase once it’s ready to perform its duties as my daily:

Being of SE specification is also comes with Front Fog Lights:

And Illuminated Vanity Mirrors:

Another bonus with this splendid A2 is that the earlier style wiper arm hasn’t failed and clears the windscreen perfectly:

I’ll no doubt swap it over with a spare later style wiper arm and matching plenum cover with twin washer nets. Non-heated though but sure I can quickly sort that out when I have a spare hour or 2.

I’ll add pictures of the wider interior in the next post.

Kind regards,

Tom

Me again,

Looking wider within the interior you’ll see it’s a 2 tone Soul and Swing colour scheme, looks really nice but maybe not contrasting enough for my taste.

Some of the Swing panels could do with a freshen up but may swap them all for Soul replacements. That said I do like the idea of the Soul and Twist contrasting together as seen in Project OEM. Obtaining Twist interior items may well be the longer term plan, thoughts?

Here’s the lovely Black Leather SE Seats:

I think as a temporary solution, and that the Soul/Swing doesn’t contrast enough to my eye, a complete Soul interior would look great until I obtain Twist interior items. I’m not in a rush but will be on the look out in the New Year.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello again,

That’s pretty much the introduction over with. So what do you think of Project PDK?

Personally I’m really taken by it (the colour won me over soon as Paul arrived here at 2work Towers) and cannot wait to get the tools out to commence the enhancement process.

So I guess you’d like to know the job list and what needs attention before I put this to its daily duties…

The answer is absolutely nothing, Paul has handed this spectacular A2 over in superb condition with all the oily bits having already been recently tended to.

The only minor issue was the central locking which randomly cycled once the key was removed from the ignition. This would occur regardless of the vehicle being either locked or unlocked. As a temporary measure I quickly installed Tom’s @Howey spare AF CCCU which is here. This resolved the problem instantly but that particular CCCU is being hand delivered on the 29th so urgently needed a replacement. Subsequently a Wanted advertisement was hosted within our Market Forum yesterday morning where David @devans responded not 24 hours ago.

The Royal Mail have done well to have this here by the guaranteed by 1pm the following day whilst they have ongoing strikes as well as being so close to Christmas. Well done the Royal Mail but more importantly, a massive thank you to David for bailing me out in my moment if need.

David you are an absolute legend, a true gentlemen and I thank you for your generosity of a free AF CCCU. Very much appreciated and won’t be forgotten, should you ever need anything you know you only have to ask Sir.

Here’s the replacement AF CCCU which was only dispatched just over 24 hours ago:

9DF654D5-91DF-4D06-8161-57138BC67560.jpeg

Minutes later I was out on the driveway with the MacBook ready to recode said CCCU and match 2x factory original fobs. First up this was discarded:

95B74058-CF2F-4E7F-BC06-B0088712D679.jpeg

And David’s replacement unit fitted:

9DA9737F-3116-4C60-90B8-688117686735.jpeg

A few seconds later it was coded to the vehicles specifics along with adding the audible locked confirmation (beep on fully locked) and the anti-hijack feature (doors lock once above 10mph) enabled. Oh and 2 D type remotes matched:

D4EA3AEA-4C6F-4961-80B3-F3B4AFC32B5A.jpeg

A pair of 8E0 837 220K remote fobs will be added at a later date when I have time to grab the SKC for a pending DIS upgrade

I guess all that’s left to do now is add my personal touches to this glorious example.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello again,

After much debate with the other driver here on how to get this new addition to the family looking the way I’d like it, I have gone through multiple considerations but still very much undecided on the final colour scheme.

I really like the idea of having a contrasting Soul/Twist interior colour scheme but that’ll be a something to sort next year. What I can confess is that right now, I’m not a fan of the Soul/Swing colour scheme so will be initially swapping the whole interior to Soul, mainly as I have the parts here in the garage to quickly achieve this. Orange with Black temporarily works well for me.

Viewing the interior as a whole reveals quite a few areas that I’d like to give some attention to, here’s a couple of images to view:

F0A05634-6C20-4595-8D10-8D42C13D9E84.jpeg

Comparing this to the interior of Project OEM you’ll see what I’m used to over the 15 hours a week in an A2 cabin:

I certainly think the steering wheel is a little too round for my liking and most of you will know my admiration for the RNS-E PU running custom firmware. As per a recent Wanted thread within the Market Forum, a Soul double DIN dashboard is a must and this transplant will happen as a matter of urgency, that same can be said for the FBMFSW swap. Just so happens I have a spare FBMFSW in the garage but no associated airbag just yet, sure I can temporarily borrow one from elsewhere within the fleet.

I have also become accustomed to the additional support of the A6 C5 armrest, lucky enough I also have a spare in the garage along with a spare bespoke bracket (thank you Erling @Erlingtheyounger).

The aim is to complete as much as possible before I return to work in the New Year. With family rightly taking priority right now I truly think there are going to be a few long days between Christmas and the New Year.

Many more updates to follow after the big man has been down my chimney. Merry Christmas everyone.

Kind regards,

Tom

Tom, I'm really looking forward to the updates on this. I think the Jaipur red is one of those rarely seen colours and suspect you might go above and beyond what most of us can onky ever dream of achieving.

I am not sure Soul seats was available in the age of Jaipur, could it be that this car had swing seats from factory?
Might look fairly good with the Jaipur exterior perhaps?
But twist will surely not be bad either.
