Project Flipper

Thanks mate, it's been a labour of love but that's me just about happy with it now
I’ve not started on my journey yet, still looking for the right car as a starting point but that’s certainly an inspiration for me! But if you’d like me there will always be ‘just one more thing’ that you think it needs!

No it'll probably never be totally complete, I've just bought a spare sport steering wheel to get retrimmed in grey perforated leather with orange stitching and I'll probably get Timmus's full colour dis when the pixels eventually die on mine and I was going to have a go at fitting a set of dynamic indicators to the rear lights etc, etc ?

Project Flipper got his Bose system fitted today and I must say the difference is amazing, well worth the money.

I can't say enough good about Tom Cunningham aka Timmus, his work is absolutely outstanding, I couldn't recommend him highly enough he done more than was expected and even better still he's a top bloke. I'll definitely be using his services again to fit his colour DIS. A big thank you also goes out to Steve Edwards aka A2Steve for sourcing the Bose kit at a very reasonable price ;)

Project Flipper.

A dolphin grey BHC Sport with black & grey leather/alcantara interior. My plan is build a stealth look S2 in the same way Audi would've but with my own slight twist on it. It needs a few jobs done to make right, mainly a clutch but has the basis to be a really nice car.

Today I got project Flipper off to a start by painting both the chrome on front grill, the rear badge gloss black and fitted number plate surrounds. I've ordered fly eye tint for the headlights so that'll be next weekends job ?

Just out of interest how did you go about painting these badges? Are the easy to remove? Any special treatment to paint chrome? Which paint? Thanks?

The front badge just unclips but the rear is stuck on with double sided tape so great care is needed not to damage the paintwork when removing it. I used U-pol plastic primer and gloss black on them. Obviously the front will suffer from stonechips but mine has held up remarkably well. When time comes to freshen it up, it's just a case of wiping the old paint off the cellulose thinners and redoing it I've only just redone mine for the first time and tbh it wasn't really needing done I'm just a bit ocd ?

Old trick to remove badges that are held on with double sided tape is to warm the badge to soften the adhesive foam, then using dental floss drag through the gap in a sawing motion. will not damage the car paint nor the badge.

...or indeed use low breaking strain fishing line in the same way - i bought 50m from wish last year for about 2-3 quid and it seems perfect for the job I was able to use it on 2 cars and still loads left :)

I fitted rings front and rear, moulded in gloss black plastic, from fleabay.

Fitted Flipper with his rear dynamic indicators tonight but not convinced I like them as much as the fronts ? I've ordered a set of red/yellow ones so we'll see if they look any better

Shame the original indicator has to run too

I did try pulling the bulb but it was a no go ? I could reroute a separate bulb holder into the boot but not sure how that would hold up when it comes to mot time ?

Evening,

Have you got a matching bonnet bra on the way also ?

Nice touch though!

Kind regards,

Tom

No but since you've mentioned it you've got me thinking ??
I bought just a normal black and red one and thought I'd get another to keep in the car so I asked if they could make me a custom grey and orange one and guess what they said yes ?

Flipper's been getting a few small mods while I've been getting him summer ready again, firstly I redone the service flap in dark grey with a matt carbon wrap, fitted chromed rear window winders, carried out the self opening boot conversion, (which was an absolute pig with the extra weight of the Votex), redone the Sline badges and finally fitted my set of diamond cut Le man alloys. I still can't decide which ones I prefer ?

Looking good but I do prefer the other wheels for the overall stealth look. Still my favourite A2 though ?

Yes I have to agree the grey wheels do look much better. I only put these on so I could get the new tyres fitted to the grey wheels, it was always my plan to put the diamond cut ones onto my black 90 Sport. Thanks Pal, I'm always blown away by the attention the wee car gets ?
